Role Overview
We’re looking for a Software Engineer who works at the intersection of healthcare, data, and scalable cloud architecture. In this role, you’ll help shape the foundation of a platform used by clinicians to make patient management decisions. You’ll work closely with a small, collaborative team of engineers and data scientists to design, build, and deploy secure, reliable medical software systems that directly support patient care.
This position is based in Pittsburgh, PA, with flexibility for hybrid work once onboarding is complete.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a small team of engineers and data scientists to design, develop, test, and deploy backend and frontend features in alignment with product goals.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA standards in all software development activities.
- Contribute to architecture-level discussions and long-term technical strategy.
- Identify and collaborate with the team to implement opportunities for automation, process improvement, and improved compliance monitoring.
- Maintain design, development, and testing documentation in alignment with ISO 13485, ISO 27001, and other relevant standards for medical device software.
Required Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, C++, Java, Go).
- Experience with modern web frameworks and technologies (e.g., React, Node.js, Flask, Django, or similar).
- Familiarity with secure coding practices, access control, and data encryption.
- Hands-on experience with cloud services (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in healthcare, biotech, or other regulated industries.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, SOC 2, and GDPR compliance frameworks.
- Familiarity with Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes for infrastructure management and containerized deployments.
- Experience with database systems such as PostgreSQL, Redis, or MongoDB.
Compensation
A negotiated salary, commensurate with experience, plus stock option ownership in a growing medical device software company.
Work Authorization
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available at this time, but may be considered for exceptional candidates in the future.
