JOB SUMMARY
The Mechanical Engineer I is responsible for researching, planning, and designing stations and machines using calculations, mechanical principals, and proven practices to create semi/fully automated assembly and test systems.
Essential Functions
- Researches and analyzes data such as customer request for quote, customer specifications, and PMD’s proposal to develop or determine feasibility of design or application.
- Work within design hour constraints, schedule constraints, and overall machine budget constraints.
- Work in a collaborative environment to make sure the designs developed are the most cost effective and will meet the customer’s requirements.
- Develop/review concepts to confirm the design will meet required performance metrics including cycle time, yield, uptime, CPK and Gage R&R.
- Design mechanisms, stations, machines using 3D modeling software (SolidWorks).
- Works with vendors to obtain competitive quotes for major purchased components.
- Create detailed fabrication drawings for all custom designed parts.
- Create detailed assembly drawings identifying each individual component
- Create a complete Bill of Material for each design/station.
- Release completed designs to Project Management
- Supports fabrication, assembly, debug and machine qualification activities to ensure design conforms to customer requirements and specifications
- Observe safety procedures.
Other Duties
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Any other task assigned by management within scope of position, federal and state regulations.
Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience.
- General knowledge of manufacturing process preferred.
- Working knowledge of Solidworks, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word and Excel and internet research.
- Occasionally required to travel up to 5%.

- Ability to calculate engineering formulas including deflection, moment of inertia, stress, along with applying concepts of algebra and geometry.
