About the Role
We're seeking a technical expert in injection molding to lead process development and optimization for automotive plastic components. In this role, you'll leverage advanced simulation tools, statistical methods, and hands-on technical expertise to drive quality improvements, efficiency gains, and cost reductions. You'll work cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and customer teams to support new product launches and continuous improvement initiatives..
Key Responsibilities
· Develop and optimize injection molding parameters (melt temperature, injection speed, pressure profiles, cooling time) using Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies to achieve First Pass Yield (FPY) ≥99%
· Perform Moldflow analysis to optimize part design, gate locations, cooling channels, and predict potential defects before production
· Establish robust process windows and document standard operating procedures
· Lead validation trials for new molds including T0 and T1 sampling phases
· Collaborate with mold suppliers to improve mold designs including venting, runner systems, and slider mechanisms
· Optimize injection molding machine settings (Engel, Arburg, and other platforms) to achieve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) ≥85%
· Troubleshoot complex molding defects and implement corrective actions
· Implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) systems with control charts to maintain process capability (Cpk ≥1.67)
· Drive material substitution and process improvements to reduce manufacturing costs while maintaining quality standards
· Support root cause analysis for quality issues and implement preventive measures
· Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews during Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) phases
· Participate in Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) development
· Support Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions and customer-specific requirements
· Provide technical input during prototype and pre-production phases
· Lead Six Sigma projects focused on quality improvement and waste reduction
· Deploy automation solutions including robotic part pickers, vision inspection systems, and process monitoring technologies
· Identify and implement opportunities for cycle time reduction and efficiency improvements
· Resolve customer quality concerns with detailed technical reports and data analysis
· Develop and deliver training programs for production operators and technicians on process fundamentals and SOPs
· Collaborate with global teams to align technical standards and share best practices
· Communicate effectively in English and Mandarin to support international coordination
· Other tasks assigned by Plant Manager
Qualifications
Required
· Bachelor's degree in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field
· Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in injection molding process engineering within automotive manufacturing environment
· Technical Expertise:
o Advanced proficiency in Moldflow simulation software for flow analysis, warpage prediction, and cooling optimization
o Strong knowledge of CAD tools for part and mold design reviews
o Deep understanding of polymer rheology, mold thermodynamics, and material properties (ABS, PC/ABS, PP, glass-filled materials)
o Experience with statistical analysis tools and DOE methodologies
o Familiarity with automotive quality systems (IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, PFMEA)
· Bilingual in Spanish or Mandarin
Preferred
· Automotive manufacturing or Tier 1 supplier experience
· Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
· Moldflow certification or equivalent advanced training
· Experience with specific OEM requirements (GM GMS, Ford, Toyota, etc.)
· Knowledge of automation systems and Industry 4.0 technologies
· Experience with alternative molding processes (gas assist, multi-shot, insert molding)
