The purpose of this position is to inspect capital projects completed by contractors for compliance with specifications, ordinances and regulations for the City of Spartanburg and is responsible for the engineering inspection of street and walkway projects.
- Performs inspections of installation and construction projects in process for compliance with codes, plans and regulations; reports all violations observed.
- Reviews plats, site development plans, and subdivision designs prepared by engineering consultants, developers and other contractors for accuracy and completeness.
- Reviews plans prior to issuance of permits for adherence to city and state codes; makes appropriate changes in plans when changes are made in the engineering of construction.
- Reviews and checks blueprints, plans, and sketches for proposed construction, alteration, or repair.
- Ensures that all workers on a job are qualified and licensed; reports all violations to appropriate authority.
- Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports daily; performs related clerical and record keeping tasks as needed.
- Manages the resolution of citizens’ complaints regarding contracted work; responds tactfully to inquiries and complaints orally or via written correspondence.
- Assists in resolving other city departments issues generated through work orders
- Assists Building Official and other inspectors in interpreting, applying and enforcing codes and regulations.
- Generates, compiles, and files daily inspection reports on various projects. Performs related work as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency.
- Two (2) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- CEPSCI & Asphalt Roadway Technician Certifications
Starting salary is $48,526.40 or higher depending on experience and qualifications.
