Job Description
Position Overview:
The Design Research Intern will assist the Research, Design & Standards Managers with long-range assignments, specifically the digitizing, organizing, and rehousing of archival resources and designs in the creation of shared and essential departmental libraries to support design and innovation. The intern will work in a dynamic, creative, and fast-paced environment. Communication, high-level attention to detail and punctuality are essential components of the position.
This position is based out of the New York City office. The pay rate for this role is $25/hr.
Key Accountabilities:
- Inventorying, cataloging, digitizing, and rehousing paper-based collection of jewelry, home and accessory designs that are 20+ years old.
- Collating and organizing digital works within a consistent and established naming structure.
- Assisting in conducting research on historical jewelry design trends, materials, and decorative arts to support design projects and library development.
- Preparing presentation materials and layouts for meetings with Senior Leadership.
- Supporting the development of internal reference guides, indexes, and metadata standards to improve searchability and accessibility of design archives.
Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Master's program in Library and Information Science (year two).
- A strong interest in American decorative arts, specifically jewelry and product design.
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational and technical skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision and as a member of a team.
