Position Summary:
Franklin Innovation Research, Strategies & Technology (FIRST) brings together Franklin Templeton's teams focused on innovation initiatives, allowing for new synergies to emerge, linking our actions to our though leadership/research, and offering a central point from which to coordinate broader firm activities and partner engagement.
The Industry Advisory Services team dominates industry mindshare by positioning Franklin Templeton as the pre-eminent guide and partner navigating the changing future of the industry through thought leadership, innovation, and global engagement.
As a FIRST intern, you will be immersed in the intersection of finance, technology, and innovation, driving ideas from concept to implementation. You'll have the opportunity to work across multiple disciplines - supporting projects that bridge thought leadership, strategic planning, and emerging technology applications, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to initiatives that connect innovation to impact from evaluating fintech partnerships and exploring digital assets, to developing data-driven insights that inform Franklin Templeton's strategic roadmap. Your work will directly support Franklin Templeton's mission to deliver forward-thinking solutions for clients worldwide.

An intern in this department can expect to learn:
• How innovation and emerging technology (e.g., AI, data analytics, digital assets) are integrated into the investment management industry.
• The strategic planning process behind innovation - from research to pilot design to execution.
• Data visualization, communication, and analytical skills using tools such as Power BI, Excel, and Python.
• How product and partnership development evolves from ideation to real-world impact.
• The dynamics shaping the retirement, workplace, and fintech ecosystems, and how they influence investment strategies.
• How to collaborate effectively across departments and external innovation partners to achieve integrated outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Can Include:
• Conducting market and competitive analyses across the fintech, digital asset, and retirement innovation sectors.
• Supporting the development of data dashboards and reporting tools that track innovation projects, venture partnerships, and strategic metrics.
• Assisting in evaluating new technologies, partnerships, and product opportunities aligned with the firm's innovation goals.
• Contributing to presentations, insights, and executive materials used to inform senior leadership decisions.
• Participating in cross-functional project teams, helping coordinate research, pilot programs, and strategic initiatives across the firm.
• Supporting client and partner engagement efforts through research, communication, and the creation of insights-driven materials.
Ideal Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Computer/Data Science, or a related innovative field (junior or senior year preferred).
• Strong analytical, research, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated curiosity about emerging technologies, fintech, and digital transformation within financial services.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
• Proactive, organized, and intellectually curious - eager to learn in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.
• Familiarity with data tools (Excel, Power BI, Python, or SQL) is a plus.

This is a full-time internship where students will work approximately 35 - 37.5 (dependent on state/location) hours per week and earn competitive hourly pay of $30 (dependent on location and function) USD per hour. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
