Founded in 1917, Spadone Machine LLC pioneered numerous technologies for the tire and rubber industries and became one of the most well-known custom machinery suppliers in its respective markets. These include Bias Cutting Systems for producing belt and ply, Tread Skiver Systems, Bale Cutting Systems, Sidewall Grinding Systems, Vent Trimming Systems, and material handling Trucks, Cassettes and Carts.
Today we are a small, well-known, highly profitable company that is continuing the legacy of supplying niche, engineered solutions to our customers around the world. Our vision for the future is to expand on our existing knowledge base and advance our products with new designs, approaches, and technologies.
This key position will be the technical face of the business, responsible for all engineering-related functions and is critical in all technical decisions including machine design, engineering tools, and engineering documentation. As we build the business over the coming 3-5 years, this role will be responsible for organizing the department, implementing engineering standards and systems, and hiring future engineering resources.
Responsibilities
- Lead for all mechanical machine design, including solid modeling, manufacturing drawings, bills of materials, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, etc.
- Progress our current engineering processes and documentation to a new standard. From design standards, to bills of material, and machine documentation, we are on a path to put in place more robust processes and this position will be responsible for implementing these new systems.
- Oversee project scheduling, resource allocation, and milestone tracking to ensure timely project delivery.
- Conduct root cause analysis on design or manufacturing issues to identify solutions and implement corrective actions.
- Develop detailed schematics, technical drawings, and system diagrams adhering to Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing standards.
- Collaborate with, and support suppliers as well as manufacturing during the process of building and testing machinery.
- Ensure compliance with ASME, OSHA and CE standards, as required.
- Support sales activities, both for new equipment and spare parts, as needed. This is inclusive of supporting customer meetings, developing cost estimates, writing technical descriptions for quotes and providing engineered concepts in support of sales initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or better in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Ten (10) or more years’ experience in machine design, preferably in the tire and rubber industry, but this is not a must.
- Strong proficiency with CAD, preferably SolidWorks and/or Autodesk products; familiarity with drafting standards like GD&T is essential.
- Understanding of mechanical, electro-mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic machine design elements.
- Basic understanding of machine controls (servos, VFDs, PLCs, etc.) as they relate to mechanical machine design.
- Knowledge of ASME, OSHA and CE standards particularly as they relate to machine safety.
- Experience creating and completing risk assessments for machine designs.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis on mechanical failures or design issues efficiently.
- Strong understanding of mechanical principles including schematics creation, CAD drafting, and system design methodologies.
