This role will be as part of GEF Capital’s U.S. team, based in Washington, D.C. The U.S. team deploys buyout and growth equity investments in lower middle-market private operating companies in North America.
Roles and Responsibilities:
GEF Capital is seeking a pre-MBA Associate to be based in its Washington, D.C. office. The candidate will work with the team to source, analyze, execute, and actively monitor its investments as well as support the implementation and management of the U.S. team’s environmental impact and ESG strategy. The candidate also will have the opportunity to engage with GEF Capital’s global teams, senior management, and its Investment Committee.
Key responsibilities of the Associate will include but are not limited to:
· Analyze and diligence all aspects of new investment proposals including financial, operational, commercial, legal, and environmental;
· Develop detailed financial models to support analyses;
· Prepare investment memos and present findings to the team;
· Perform in-depth research across markets and sectors and identify new investment opportunities;
· Work collaboratively with the team to execute transactions and perform other functions, as required; and
· Support ongoing monitoring of the current and future portfolio through participation in board meetings, quarterly portfolio valuations, and internal and external reporting.
Candidate Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier undergraduate program;
· One (1) to four (4) years of work experience specifically within financial modelling and analysis including previous roles in investment banking, private equity, transaction service / accounting due diligence, corporate M&A, management consulting or other relevant work experience;
· Demonstrated analytical skills, including knowledge of financial modeling, accounting and financial statement analysis; and
· Sound business judgment and problem-solving skills, including ability to work well as a member of a small team.
Other Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience in the energy, utilities, environmental services, clean technology, industrials, logistics, and/or infrastructure sectors;
· Interest in environmental impact strategy and management.
