Job Location: El Paso, Texas

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm.
FLSA status: Exempt

Position Summary
The graphic designer is responsible for visual marketing and communications deliverables to support UTEP’s educational, research and community service missions. Working with the Division of Marketing and Communications, the graphic designer uses modern digital tools to create high-impact designs that meet and exceed the quality standards of an R1 research university that is part of the University of Texas system.
The graphic designer collaborates with marketing plan directors, editorial and digital content specialists, cinematographers, photographers, other graphic designers, the media relations team and the web team to help produce a wide variety of marketing materials, including, but not limited to, websites, print and digital collateral, brochures, magazines, video graphics, billboards, signage, slide decks, campaigns, and supplementary material.
Statement Of Duties And Responsibilities
Provide creative design solutions to UTEP’s communications challenges.
Plan, gather content, design in digital format, and oversee the production of assigned marketing communication deliverables.
As necessary, art direct the creation of photographic and other illustrative elements to be used in UTEP marketing and communications collateral.
Work closely with project managers to ensure that the creative brief and scope of a design project meet the expectations of stakeholders. Ensure that branding for the organization’s materials follows branding guidelines.
On occasion, serve as a project manager for complex design projects that may involve the work of multiple creative producers.
Be familiar with UTEP’s Strategic Plan, Strategic Messaging Guide and Visual Brand Guide and ensure that designed marketing deliverables are in alignment with these plans.
Provide creative critiques, suggestions and other constructive input for work designed by colleagues in the Marcomm Division.
As needed, manage design revisions (input from stakeholders) efficiently keeping with the department's standard operating procedures.
Accurately estimate work hours needed to complete design components of marketing deliverables.
Occasionally provide support for the rehearsal and live presentation of marketing materials created by the graphic designer.
Stay abreast of relevant design trends and be familiar with current marketing materials produced by UTEP’s competitors.
Support quality control efforts as directed by a supervisor and standard operating procedures.
Complete design projects by the assigned deadline.
Manage all digital assets used in projects, professionally, as directed by the department’s standard operating procedures and the Division’s protocols for naming conventions and file management.
As needed, support the compliance review of the Division of Marketing and Communications materials that fall under the jurisdiction of UTEP’s Visual Brand Guide.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook, and ability to learn and use institutional software systems.
Complies with all State and University policies.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
Education: A bachelor’s degree in an art, design, marketing communications or related field; or an extensive portfolio demonstrating multiple years of professional, consistently high quality work.

Experience: Two years of related experience to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have expert knowledge of the Adobe Suite — using Illustrator, Photoshop, and Indesign.
