Lead Full Stack Developer (Python-Focused)
Location: Kansas City, MO (Onsite)
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
About the Role
We’re looking for a Lead Full Stack Developer to join a fast-paced, innovation-driven engineering team building modern applications that support complex infrastructure and utility-focused initiatives.
This role is a strong fit for someone who loves to code hands-on while also guiding and mentoring other developers. You’ll help design and build new applications from the ground up, improve existing systems, and influence technical standards as the team continues to grow.
The environment is dynamic—priorities evolve, tools vary, and problems aren’t always perfectly defined—so adaptability and curiosity matter just as much as technical depth.
What You’ll Do
Technical Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead development efforts across multiple full-stack applications
- Mentor junior and mid-level developers through code reviews, pair programming, and hands-on guidance
- Promote clean code, modular design, and modern engineering best practices
- Help shape development standards and technical direction for the team
Full Stack Development
- Design, build, and maintain scalable applications using Python and modern full-stack technologies
- Develop backend services and APIs alongside frontend user interfaces (framework-agnostic: React, Angular, Vue, etc.)
- Build integrations, workflows, and microservices as business needs evolve
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
Collaboration & Delivery
- Partner closely with product owners, engineers, and business stakeholders
- Turn loosely defined requirements into practical technical solutions
- Balance multiple projects in a fast-moving environment
- Contribute to architectural decisions and long-term system design
Quality, Testing & DevOps
- Ensure code quality through testing, performance tuning, and best practices
- Support CI/CD pipelines and automation efforts
- Assist with deployments, troubleshooting, and ongoing production support
What We’re Looking For
Required
- 5–8+ years of experience in full stack software development
- Strong Python experience (Django, Flask, FastAPI, or similar)
- Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular, Vue)
- Solid understanding of relational and/or NoSQL databases
- Experience leading or mentoring other developers
- Strong communication skills and comfort working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to thrive in ambiguous, evolving environments
Nice to Have
- Experience in engineering, utilities, construction, or project-driven industries
- Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Background in microservices, APIs, and system integrations
- Familiarity with Agile or hybrid delivery models
- Experience building new applications from scratch
Who Does Well in This Role
This role is ideal for someone who:
- Enjoys hands-on development as much as coaching others
- Is flexible with tools, frameworks, and architectures
- Likes solving problems that don’t come with perfect requirements
- Wants to influence how a growing engineering team operates
