Essential Job FunctionsResponsibilities:
- Investigate commercial and residential fires that may involve mechanical systems or fire protection systems
- Conduct field investigations and perform forensic engineeringfailure/accident analysis on incidents involving fires, fire protection systems, pressure vessels, HVAC systems, boilers, gas systems, plumbing systems, etc.
- Conduct unbiased investigations for various clients
- Provide technical findings and conclusions in laymen's terms, both verbally and in written reports
- Responsible for retention and development of client relationships
- Prepare and submit written reports, documenting findings and results when requested
- Explain to clients, in layman's terms, your investigation, analysis and findings
- Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups
- Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending company-paid educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies
- Develop and maintain client relations
- Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback into job performance
- Regular and predictable presence at work
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering required; Masters Degree preferred
- P. E. registration or ability to obtain
- CFI certification or ability to obtain
- Fire Investigation experience or desire to learn a must
- Knowledge of fire protection systems, gas systems, sprinkler systems and plumbing
- Minimum of seven (7) years of post-academic engineering experience
- Forensic, design or testing experience/exposure
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication and writing skills
- Ability to travel 25% of the time
- Ability to maneuver in and around an accident site
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to carry equipment to and from job sites
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to drive in all conditions
- Ability to fly on airplanes
- Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site
- Ability to learn a new industry and obtain required certifications
