OverviewOrrick currently has an excellent opportunity for an Associate General Counsel based in any of our U.S. offices and consideration given for 100% remote US locations.
The Role: Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel will work closely with other members of the Office of General Counsel (7OGC8) to assist in managing the legal affairs of the Firm and strategic planning for risk management, including preparing risk management policies, training materials, and templates, and advising on unique client engagement arrangements and client due diligence requests.
The Associate General Counsel is responsible for modeling and acting in accordance with Orrick's client service standards and core values.
Responsibilities
- Assist OGC and the Firms Risk Management Committee with administration of risk management policies, including drafting policies, alerts, and training materials for the Firms lawyers and staff.
- Stay informed of updates to the rules of professional conduct, ethics opinions, and other legal developments, and work with OGC to provide education and alerts regarding same.
- Assist with claims prevention program and claims management including subpoenas.
- Consult with New Business & Conflicts Director and team and partners regarding complicated conflicts of interest, intake issues, engagement terms, and lateral onboarding.
- Extremely strong communication and analytical skills with ability to counsel partners and management on business and ethical conflicts and risk issues.
- Counsel on evolving issues around use of AI in the legal industry.
- Prepare and review secondment agreements, workflow coverage arrangements, local counsel engagement agreements, and Kovel letters.
- Assist in responding to auditor, insurance, and client information requests, and responses to Requests for Proposals, client due diligence questionnaires, and similar inquiries.
- Support annual global risk management audit procedures.
- Assist in the development and implementation of strategic goals and specific projects for risk management.
- Complete special projects on various issues as needed.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate and current admission to a U.S. bar in good standing is required.
- Minimum of five years of legal experience, including at least three years of law firm experience.
- Experience with application of various rules and codes of professional responsibility.
- Experience in law firm general counsels office preferred.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of Firm staff and attorneys.
- Creative and practical approach to solving problems that is informed by the Firms strategic, business and professional needs.
- Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal, communication, and counseling skills.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, coupled with excellent attention to detail.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality, personal integrity, ethics and dedication.
- Flexibility in handling numerous responsibilities simultaneously and responding to ever-changing priorities.
- Must be willing to work varied hours as needed (covering multiple time zones).
- Some travel required.
Compensation and Benefits
The expected salary range for this position is between:
- New York City, Silicon Valley, and San Francisco $285,000 - $375,000
- Washington DC, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica, Sacramento, Boston, and Seattle $287,000 6 $375,000
- All Other US Locations $250,00 -$375,000

This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orricks estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
