We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Staff Accountant specializing in Aerospace and Defense Manufacturing to join our financial team. Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing procedures.
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliation and accounts payable/receivable processing to maintain precise financial records.
- Oversee regulatory reporting requirements specific to aerospace and defense manufacturing, including compliance with securities law where applicable.
- Perform detailed financial analysis such as cash flow analysis, budget variance analysis, and forecasting to support management decision-making.
- Assist with internal controls related to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) compliance and participate in audit processes.
- Support technical accounting projects involving complex transactions, including debt issuance, lease accounting, or other specialized areas such as Wills, Trusts & Estate Law if relevant.
- Utilize accounting software such as PeopleSoft, Xero, Sage or QuickBooks to ensure efficient data entry and reporting.
- Mentor junior team members by sharing expertise in non-profit accounting, governmental accounting or other specialized fields as needed.
- Collaborate across departments to improve financial processes, streamline workflows, and enhance overall financial management practices.
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA certification or progress toward CPA preferred.
- Proven experience in corporate accounting within aerospace or defense manufacturing industries is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), technical accounting standards, and regulatory requirements specific to the industry.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software such as PeopleSoft, Sage, Xero or QuickBooks; proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential.
- Familiarity with SOX compliance procedures and internal control environments.
- Demonstrated ability to perform account reconciliation, journal entries, financial report writing and interpretation with accuracy.
- Experience with audit coordination, regulatory reporting, budget management and forecasting processes.
- Knowledge of financial concepts including double entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, debits & credits, balance sheet reconciliation and cash flow analysis.
- Excellent analytical skills combined with strong attention to detail; ability to interpret complex financial data effectively.
