We are seeking an entry-level Metallurgical/Materials Science Engineer to join our Advanced Materials Technology team. This group provides materials and engineering device support for large mining trucks, with a strong focus on steel and cast iron (≈85% of projects). You will be part of an ISO-accredited laboratory, working across shop floor, lab, and desk environments to support failure analysis and materials testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct metallurgical failure analyses on tools and components; identify root causes.
- Investigate design changes or supplier variations impacting material performance.
- Analyze microstructure and chemical composition of steel and cast iron.
- Perform metallography, microscopy, fractography, SEM/EDS, NDE, and mechanical testing (tensile, Charpy, hardness).
- Develop test plans, interpret engineering prints, and prepare technical reports.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams.
- Manage 5–10 projects simultaneously at varying stages.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering.
- Experience: Open to fresh graduates with exposure to failure analysis; preferred candidates will have 3+ years of experience.
Skills
- Technical: Fractography, microscopy, metallography, non-destructive evaluation (NDE), mechanical testing, hardness testing, SEM/EDS.
- Soft Skills: Problem-solving mindset, effective communication, time management, MS Office proficiency.
- Nice to Have: Advanced analytics experience.
