OverviewGeosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Environmental / Geoenvironmental / Remediation Engineer to join our contaminated site assessment and remediation practice in our Costa Mesa, California office. Consideration may also be given to candidates seeking a fully remote work arrangement, subject to the Company's discretion. In this role, you will lead and deliver investigation and cleanup projects (including in situ remediation for chlorinated solvents and emerging contaminants such as PFAS), support waste containment and landfill engineering projects, and apply sustainability tools to help clients make defensible, resilient decisions. You will apply your engineering skills to innovative and challenging environmental projects for a diverse private and public sector client base while further developing the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Task and project management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability.
- Perform and manage contaminated site assessments and remedy evaluation, including preparing investigation work plans, data evaluation, feasibility studies, treatability studies, removal action work plans, remedy design, and remedy implementation (including in situ remedies for chlorinated solvents and PFAS where applicable).
- Support solid waste and geoenvironmental engineering assignments, such as landfill expansion investigations, waste containment system design/analysis, and permitting support, in coordination with geotechnical and environmental teams.
- Apply sustainability and resiliency tools to project decisions, including quantitative sustainability assessments, ISO-compliant life cycle assessment (ISO 14040/14044), and carbon/GHG accounting (Scope 1, 2, and 3) when relevant to client goals.
- Contribute to conceptual and quantitative modeling efforts (e.g., contaminant fate and transport, remedy performance, and/or computational geomechanics) to support remedy selection, design optimization, and uncertainty evaluation.
- Performing and managing pilot and bench-scale programs for soil, soil vapor, and groundwater technologies.
- Preparing remediation action plans for soil, soil vapor, and groundwater remediation projects including drawings, engineering analyses and calculations, and technical specifications.
- Preparing technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, and proposals.
- Management and mentoring of junior staff and managing subcontractors.
- Manage work to meet contract schedules and appropriate codes and regulations, including regulatory compliance and agency interfacing (e.g., state and federal environmental programs) and adherence to industry standard-of-care criteria.
- Prepare for and participate in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties.
- Consistent with our sell-manage-do business model, play a role supporting lead generation, business development, staff development, and mentoring.
- At times, job may also include fieldwork including multi-media environmental sampling (air, groundwater, wastewater, soil, soil vapor) and characterization (including emerging contaminants such as PFAS and 1,4-dioxane), sediment sampling, drilling oversight, contractor oversight, landfill/containment investigation support, and remediation system operations, maintenance, and construction.
- Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Education and Licensure
- Bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, geotechnical, or chemical engineering. (required)
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or professional registration (P.E.), or ability to obtain within one year. (preferred)
- Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) certification. (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- At least 5 years of direct environmental consulting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
- Demonstrated experience with environmental site assessment and remedial investigation/feasibility study (RI/FS) programs, including soil, soil gas/soil vapor, groundwater, and multimedia sampling and data evaluation. (required)
- Experience with landfill design/permitting, waste containment systems, waste profiling, and/or solid waste regulatory programs. (preferred)
- Experience conducting or supporting ISO-compliant life cycle assessments (ISO 14040/14044), carbon/GHG accounting (Scope 1, 2, 3), and/or broader sustainability and resiliency assessments. (preferred)
- Experience with in situ remediation technologies (e.g., enhanced in situ bioremediation, chemical oxidation/reduction) and/or contaminants such as chlorinated solvents, LNAPL/DNAPL, and PFAS; familiarity with contaminant fate and transport concepts and modeling is a plus. (preferred)
- Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
- Experience producing clear, defensible technical reports and regulatory submittals; strong technical writing and QA/QC skills. (required)
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
- Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
- Active participation in relevant professional associations and/or local technical committees. (preferred)
- Field work and overnight travel may be required.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training (with current refreshers). (preferred)
- Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.
- Minimum Salary: $97,255 / Maximum Salary: $126,430 (Costa Mesa, California)
