Electrical Controls Engineer

Job Summary
The Electrical Controls Engineer plays a critical role in the design, assembly, programming, and commissioning of industrial control systems. This hands-on position requires deep expertise in control panel construction, PLC/HMI programming, and electrical design. The ideal candidate is self-directed, detail-oriented, and takes pride in delivering precision work.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead or contribute to control system design, programming, and functional testing
- Assemble and wire electrical control panels per schematics and company standards
- Mount enclosures and perform panel fabrication including drilling, tapping, and punching
- Wire equipment and support system startup, checkout, and troubleshooting
- Conduct functional, high-voltage, and continuity testing using standard instruments
- Identify and communicate defective materials or questionable conditions promptly
- Maintain a clean, organized work area in compliance with all safety guidelines
- Execute tasks according to manufacturing schedules with minimal supervision
- Actively support continuous improvement initiatives and workspace organization
Qualifications
Required:
- 10–15 years of experience in control panel assembly, electrical design, and PLC/HMI programming
- Strong proficiency in reading and creating electrical schematics
- Proven track record designing and programming industrial automation systems
- Proficiency programming Allen-Bradley (Rockwell) PLC/HMI platforms
Preferred:
- Experience with the Codesys programming environment
- Background in custom machine automation or specialty equipment design
Skills & Competencies
- Expertise in electrical panel layout, wiring, and component selection
- Working knowledge of UL standards and industrial control panel safety regulations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work independently and lead small project teams as needed
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs frequently; occasionally up to 50 lbs
- Visual requirements include close vision, depth perception, and color recognition
Work Environment
- Shop environment with moderate noise levels and exposure to mechanical movement
- Occasional vibration exposure depending on task assignment
Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
