The Role – What You’ll Do
Barr is seeking a marketing specialist to join our Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Corporate Business Development team in a hybrid role supporting the advancement of Barr’s firmwide market strategies. This role works closely with Corporate Business Development, Communications, and Events teams and business unit leadership to help shape and position Barr’s engineering and environmental consulting services within priority market sectors. The position is responsible for synthesizing market and economic intelligence, helping define market priorities, supporting go-to-market strategies, coordinating client- and market-focused initiatives, and translating Barr’s technical strengths into clear, compelling, and consistent market offerings that strengthen client relationships and drive long-term growth.
A successful person in this role is strategic, proactive, and detail-oriented, with a strong client focus and the ability to influence without direct authority. They thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities with strong organization and follow-through, and communicate effectively across teams. They balance independent initiative with collaborative teamwork and demonstrate flexibility in adjusting their schedule to meet project and client needs.
Your Impact – Key Responsibilities
- Business development and market positioning: proactively identify client needs and market opportunities for Barr’s integrated engineering and environmental solutions. Work with project teams and principals to qualify opportunities where Barr can introduce solutions.
- Market and client coordination: lead the coordination of specific market sector strategy and engage in coordinating market sector and key client engagement for the sector. Align strategy efforts, driving actions that position Barr for long-term market opportunities. The primary focus will be on the power market and related clients, with support for additional markets and services as needed.
- Strategic positioning and client development: coordinate activities related to client loyalty initiatives, long-lead pursuits, and strategic positioning efforts to help strengthen Barr’s client relationships and market presence.
- Marketing research and market intelligence: conduct research to inform market sector, client, business unit, and company marketing objectives; this may include monitoring RFP and intelligence data resources to inform Business Development, Communications, and business unit teams.
- Go-to-market strategy development: partner with business unit leads, client events, and communications in support of go-to-market strategy development to promote Barr’s integrated engineering and environmental solutions services.
- Corporate Business Development initiatives: coordinate and lead Corporate Business Development initiatives as assigned, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution.
About The Opportunity
- Hybrid: a hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.
- Travel requirement: approximately 10 percent travel to support client meetings, industry events, and internal engagement with staff in various offices.
About You – Required Core Competencies
- Education: bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or a related field.
- Experience: five or more years of relevant experience.
- Supporting business development and communications functions.
- Leading activities within cross-functional teams.
- Communication: strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across teams.
- Travel: ability and willingness to travel occasionally to support client meetings, industry events, and internal collaboration activities.
- Possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
Helpful Additional Experience (not Required)
- Experience developing and implementing digital marketing and social media strategies.
- Knowledge of client journey mapping for business development strategies.
- Understanding of engineering and environmental consulting markets, particularly related to the power utilities, renewable energy, data centers, and/or oil and gas.
- Experience in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry.
- Proficiency preparing visual presentation materials.
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint.
Compensation
Anticipated range of $80,000–$110,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as Exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
