Job Description:
J&A is hiring qualified individuals at the Forestry Technician level to join our Forestry Team in Ukiah, CA. This is a permanent, non-exempt position. The successful candidate will work both independently and as part of a team to meet project goals under the supervision of a Registered Professional Forester (RPF). The ideal candidate is adaptable, possesses strong communication and problem-solving skills, and will be willing to occasionally travel for work. Professional duties will cover a wide array of forestry and biological assignments both in and out of the field. The position requires an individual capable of working in remote, rugged locations on steep and brushy terrain, sometimes in inclement weather.
Responsibilities
- Field layout of forestry projects, including timber marking and watercourse buffer flagging
- Preparation of permit applications, reports, and other documentation
- ·Forest inventory data collection and analysis
- Forest/rural road assessment and monitoring
- Biological and botanical surveying
- GIS mapping and field navigation
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Forestry or closely related field preferred or A.S. in Forestry/Natural Resources
- Ability to work alone and with others in remote and steep terrain
- Valid CA driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability to safely operate 4WD pickup and ATV (ATV training can be provided)
- Knowledge of forestry principles and techniques
- Familiarity with North Coast species and ecology
- Understanding and use of forestry field equipment (compass, clinometer, etc.)
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and ESRI GIS products
Compensation & Benefits:
Starting compensation ranges from $28-$35/hour depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance, 401K plan with up to 3.5% company match, company cell phone, company sponsored professional development, and 24 days of PTO per year including vacation, sick leave, personal leave, and holidays.
