Interior Design Showroom & Operations Manager
About Amy Karyn Home
Amy Karyn Home is a boutique interior design studio and retail home furnishings showroom located in Hopewell, New Jersey. Founded by RISD graduate and textile designer Amy Karyn, our showroom brings together interior design, exclusive textiles, furniture, antiques, fine art, and a thoughtfully curated collection of objects for the home.
We are a small, hands-on business committed to beautiful design, exceptional quality, and highly personalized service. We are looking for an organized, resourceful, and proactive individual to become an important part of our team.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Showroom & Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day coordination of purchasing, procurement, order management, inventory, vendor relationships, shipping and deliveries, showroom operations, and studio administration.
Working closely with the designer, you will help manage the many details behind our interior design projects and retail showroom—from obtaining pricing and placing orders to tracking merchandise, coordinating deliveries, maintaining inventory, and communicating with vendors and clients.
Because we are both an interior design studio and a retail home furnishings store, this is a varied, hands-on position. The right person will be equally comfortable managing details behind the scenes and interacting professionally with customers in the showroom.
This is a full-time, in-person position working Tuesday through Saturday. Saturday availability is required.
We are seeking someone who currently lives within a reasonable commuting distance of Hopewell, NJ.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage purchasing and procurement for interior design projects and showroom merchandise, including pricing, purchase orders, invoices, payments, and order documentation.
- Track orders from placement through final delivery, closely monitoring lead times, backorders, changes, damages, returns, replacements, and other issues.
- Maintain accurate and organized records for client and showroom purchases.
- Manage showroom inventory, including creating SKUs, receiving merchandise, tagging and pricing products, replenishment, organization, and annual physical inventory.
- Coordinate shipping and deliveries among vendors, receivers, warehouses, the showroom, and client homes.
- Maintain accurate delivery documentation and provide timely status updates.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with vendors, manufacturers, sales representatives, artisans, trade partners, receivers, and delivery companies.
- Establish new vendor and trade accounts and maintain related paperwork and records.
- Help maintain a beautiful, welcoming, and well-organized retail showroom, including merchandising, product displays, samples, and materials.
- Assist showroom customers and provide attentive, knowledgeable, and professional service.
- Support day-to-day studio administration, including files, records, calendars, appointments, meetings, and operational systems.
- Assist the designer with product research and sourcing, material and sample organization, quantity and cost calculations, and preparation of fabrics and materials for custom projects.
- Attend trade shows, vendor events, showrooms, and industry appointments as needed to research new products, materials, and resources.
- Troubleshoot purchasing, shipping, inventory, and vendor issues and follow them through to resolution.
- Provide additional design, project, and showroom support as needed.
Qualifications
- Exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and proactive.
- Strong ability to manage multiple orders, projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong professional follow-through.
- Warm, polished, and comfortable interacting with retail customers, interior design clients, vendors, and trade professionals.
- Able to work independently, anticipate needs, solve problems, and take initiative.
- Proficient with email, spreadsheets, calendars, and general office software.
- Comfortable learning purchasing, inventory, and project-management systems.
- Previous interior design experience is a strong plus, particularly experience with residential interiors, home furnishings, textiles, furniture, antiques, or a design showroom.
- Experience with procurement, purchasing, order management, inventory, showroom operations, or high-end/specialty retail is also highly valued.
- A genuine interest in interior design and an appreciation for furniture, textiles, antiques, art, and home furnishings.
- Able to occasionally lift, move, organize, and handle merchandise, fabric books, samples, and other materials.
- Must be able to reliably commute to our Hopewell, NJ location for this full-time, in-person position.
- Must be available to work Tuesday through Saturday. Saturday availability is required.
The Ideal Candidate
The person who will thrive in this position is someone who notices details, anticipates what needs to happen next, and follows things through to completion.
You enjoy creating order and keeping multiple moving pieces organized. An outstanding order, unanswered vendor email, upcoming delivery, or missing piece of information doesn't get forgotten—you keep track of it and make sure it is resolved.
You are comfortable working in a small business environment where priorities can shift and everyone pitches in. You can move easily between coordinating an order, speaking with a vendor, organizing samples, receiving merchandise, assisting a showroom customer, and helping the designer prepare for a client project.
Previous interior design experience is a strong advantage because you will regularly work with fabrics, furniture, samples, custom products, materials, vendors, and client projects. However, we are also interested in candidates with exceptional organizational and operational experience who have a strong interest in interiors and are eager to learn.
Above all, we are looking for someone who is dependable, organized, resourceful, professional, and genuinely enjoys making sure things are done correctly and on time.
