Job Description – Marine Electrical Engineer
Location: (Covington, LA – Office)
General Position Summary:
· Design vessel electrical systems.
· Provide Calculation reports for marine electrical systems.
· Develop electrical and controls testing procedures.
· Develop detailed 2D AutoCAD drawings.
· Assist in providing part details, cable routing, cable trays, and equipment integration.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Prepare or revise engineering drawings in accordance with the marked-up prints, sketches, or verbal instructions provided by senior staff.
· Development/design of electrical and electronic system drawings such as power system deck plans, lighting deck plans, emergency shutdowns, navigation lighting, magnetic door hold back systems, DC systems, etc.
· Review ShipConstructor models for electrical equipment placement and cable routing.
· Track and manage incorporation of drawing technical and administrative comments from multiple sources.
· Track detailed comments and their resolution across multiple vessel classes to ensure all end products are consistent and in accordance with governing documents and specifications.
· Perform surveys, ship checks, and analyze as-built drawings, redline mark ups and other correspondence to develop or revise drawings for marine systems.
· Writing of Equipment Specifications, Datasheets, Material Requisitions, and Technical Bid Evaluations
· Review and Approval of Vendor Cable Block Diagrams
· Maintenance of EPLA as design develops and system design matures
· Development of Cable Schedule and Cable Pull list
Desired Characteristics:
· Knowledge of engineering practices, mathematics, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
· Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
· Applicant must be able to take detailed verbal direction and deliver accurate drawings.
· Strong attention to quality, organization skills, computing, and presentation skills.
· Strong work ethic and dedication.
· Must work well in a team dynamic.
· Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
Job Requirements
· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited school.
· 10 years’ electrical engineering experience required, 3 years as a Marine Electrical Engineer is preferred.
· Professional Engineers License not required but is preferred.
· Experience working on both commercial and government projects is a plus.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Understanding of ABS, USCG, & SOLAS rules.
· Ability to develop, comprehend, and evaluate contract specifications.
· Must be a U.S. Citizen.
