Mechanical Design Engineer II

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – minimum 3 days onsite per week
Job Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer II to research, plan, analyze, design, and develop mechanical products such as ammunition handling systems, structures, gun systems, missile launchers, mechanisms, and other devices.
The engineer will perform technical analysis, testing, and evaluation of moderately complex engineering problems using specialized equipment and computer programs. The role will also analyze and interpret design specifications, drawings, documents, models, and test results to ensure technical designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, plan, analyze, design, and develop mechanical products and systems.
- Perform technical analysis, testing, and evaluation of moderately complex engineering problems.
- Analyze and interpret design specifications, drawings, documents, models, and test results.
- Ensure technical designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements.
- Develop and write technical documentation and revise existing documentation.
- Provide input to technical papers or presentations.
- Deliver technical presentations related to production support activities when needed.
- Create and maintain product parts, assemblies, and drawings using PTC Creo Parametric 11 modeling software.
- Perform engineering design, development, analysis, experimentation, testing, and product assurance tasks.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with customers.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant engineering disciplines, industry practices, trends, and applications.
- Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety policies and rules.
- Provide input to project leaders for the development of project plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Work with internal or external shops to manufacture designs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline, plus 4 years of relevant experience; or an M.S. degree plus 2 years of relevant experience.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience.
- Working knowledge of creating moderately complex solid models and mechanical designs using CAD systems, preferably PTC Pro/ENGINEER or Creo.
- Strong ability to solve moderately complex technical design and development problems requiring professional-level engineering knowledge.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working with internal or external shops to manufacture designs.
- Working knowledge of GD&T principles (ASME Y14.5-2009 or Y14.5-2018).
- Working knowledge of Tolerance Stack-Up Analysis.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience with Creo modeling and drawing generation.
- Experience with EPDM, preferably Windchill.
- Familiarity with relevant military and commercial design standards.
- Familiarity with current computer applications and technologies used in applicable engineering disciplines.
- Experience in a military product production environment.
- Experience developing precision assembly tooling.
- Experience with complex mechanical design and development.
Work Schedule
This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of 3 days onsite per week in Maple Grove, MN.
- Tuesday and Wednesday are mandatory onsite days.
- The third onsite day will be Monday or Thursday.
The remaining work may be performed remotely based on the established work schedule and business requirements.
