MPC Solutions is seeking a Manager of Software Development who can both design the architecture and build the software behind our growing retail technology platform. This role is ideal for a hands-on manager who enjoys building and motivating small technical teams, setting the technical direction, improving platform reliability and delivering high-quality products in a timely manner.
MPC Solutions provides content management, interactive product experiences, digital point-of-sale displays, analytics and AI assisted shopping tools for retailers and brands across more than 20,000 locations in over 30 countries. Our software connects cloud services, web applications and Android-based endpoints deployed in live retail environments.
Responsibilities
- Mentor technical team members, review technical work and help build a disciplined, accountable engineering culture.
- Partner with product, creative, sales and leadership teams to turn customer needs into practical technical plans and release priorities.
- Lead the architecture and ongoing development of MPC’s cloud-based content management and retail engagement platform.
- Design reliable APIs, services and data models that support web applications, Android endpoints, analytics and third-party integrations.
- Improve the deployment, monitoring, testing and incident-response practices needed to support devices operating in thousands of retail locations.
- Guide the modernization of legacy components and database infrastructure without disrupting active customers or field deployments.
- Remain hands-on in the codebase while making sound decisions about system design, scalability, performance and technical debt.
- Update and develop clear software development standards for code quality, security, documentation, review and release management.
- Evaluate and integrate emerging capabilities, including AI-assisted product experiences, computer-vision analytics and connected retail hardware.
Requirements
- Strong ability to build and manage global technical teams including the use of outsourced resources.
- Knowledge of infrastructure as a service on the AWS and/or Azure platforms.
- Eight or more years of professional software development experience, including significant ownership of production systems.
- Demonstrated experience designing scalable SaaS or distributed software platforms and translating architecture into working software.
- Strong backend and API development skills, with experience in relational databases, data modeling and cloud infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of modern web application architecture, automated testing, continuous delivery, observability and secure development practices.
- Ability to diagnose complex production issues across application, database, network and device layers.
- Clear communication skills and the judgment to balance speed, quality, customer commitments and long-term platform health.
- Comfort operating in a growing company where priorities move quickly and technical teams contribute beyond narrowly defined assignments.
Not Required but Helpful
- Android application development, kiosk mode, device management or software deployed to distributed hardware fleets.
- Retail technology, digital signage, product-demonstration systems, point-of-sale environments or content management platforms.
- Authentication, role-based access, analytics pipelines, computer vision or generative AI integrations.
- Leading architecture reviews, mentoring engineers or serving as the technical owner for a product portfolio.
