About North
The public cloud is rapidly evolving, with businesses investing over $200 billion annually in cloud technology. As AI accelerates demand for scalable infrastructure, cloud costs are soaring, and most teams still rely on spreadsheets to manage them.
At North, we’re building the next-generation cloud, AI, and data spend management platform. We give companies real-time visibility, control, and automation over their digital asset finances so they can grow efficiently without wasting time or money.
Backed by top-tier investors and trusted by companies managing complex cloud environments, North is building the financial operating system for the public cloud.
About The Role
Most engineers at North are full-stack generalists who work across the frontend, backend, and data as the work needs. You'll ship features that help customers manage and reduce their cloud, AI, and data spend.
You don't need to be an expert in every layer on day one. We make working across the stack practical for everyone: a shared design system and frontend frameworks, common backend libraries and services, and a test framework every team uses, so the right way to build is the easy way wherever you're working. You'll grow into the parts that are new to you through code review and working alongside engineers who know them well. You'll start with a mix of customer issues and smaller features to learn the product, then join one of our product or platform teams.
We're hiring for this role without a fixed level. We'll level you based on experience and on how you work, using our engineering ladder.
What You'll Do
- Investigate and fix customer issues end to end, and leave the system better documented than you found it.
- Build features across the stack, from Python services to the frontend.
- Take your work from issue to verified in production, and watch it after release.
- Write tests, validate your changes, and show that the numbers your work produces are accurate.
- Keep your status current and raise early when something is going to move.
- Learn the FinOps concepts behind the code you touch.
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of experience building and shipping production software as part of a team.
- Solid Python and backend experience, and interest in working across the rest of the stack.
- Experience debugging production issues and working in an existing codebase.
- Testing discipline, and the habit of verifying your work before calling it done.
- Pragmatic, informed use of AI coding tools. You understand every line you ship, whether you wrote it or an agent did.
- Clear communication, and the habit of asking questions early where others can see them.
- Real interest in growing, including into parts of the stack that are new to you.
Nice to Have
- Startup or fast-moving environment experience.
- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with FinOps concepts or financial data.
- Frontend experience with TypeScript and a modern framework.
