Sinnott, Gering, and Schmitt Towers, Inc. (SGS Towers) is an engineering firm specializing in providing field and engineering services to the Telecommunications Industry. The Engineering Services include structural analysis and modification drawings, rigging and temporary bracing plans for telecom structures, forensic inspections, construction administration services, as well as evaluation of commercial and residential structures.
We are looking for a Structural Engineer II to produce reinforcement and modification designs and/or structural analyses for telecommunications structures and participate in projects under the supervision of departmental PEs as along with the Engineering Director.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include but are not limited to the following duties (other related tasks may be assigned on an as needed basis):
- Perform detailed structural analysis of original, modified and proposed telecommunication towers; monopole, guyed and self-support structures.
- Assist in design of commercial and residential structures.
- Use complex engineering modeling software such as tnxTower and RISA 3D to solve complex engineering problems.
- Prepare formal reports and letters to summarize analysis results for delivery to clients.
- Complete hand calculations as needed to supplement analysis reports.
- Review engineering drawings for accuracy of designs.
- Perform CAD drawings, as required.
- Client communication, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or other related field.
- Have passed (or at minimum are working towards taking) the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Exam. Also referred to as an EIT or EI certification.
- 1-4 years of engineering-related work experience after graduation.
- Working knowledge of design software like CAD.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
- Experience with structural analysis.
- Detail oriented and self-motivated.
- Strong organizational skills including the ability to accomplish multiple tasks within agreed upon time frames through effective prioritization of duties.
- Ability to thrive within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- PE License (or working towards taking the PE exam)
- 1-3 years of telecom experience in an engineering capacity.
- Experience or exposure to Risa3D or TNXtower software.
- Knowledge of bolted and welded connection designs.
- Working knowledge of TIA/EIA code and other relevant specifications is a plus.
