Job Description
The ESG Value Creation Associate will join Malk Partners’ fast-growing Value Creation practice, working directly with portfolio companies and other corporates to establish and implement sustainability-driven value creation strategies. This role will help clients meet the evolving expectations of external stakeholders, including investors, regulators, customers, and employees, by integrating sustainability into their business strategy, operations, and reporting.
The role offers the opportunity to drive meaningful impact across a diverse client base while working at the intersection of ESG, strategy, and innovation. You will collaborate closely with investors, portfolio company management teams, and internal experts to identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, reduce risk, and create long-term enterprise value through sustainability throughout the investment lifecycle.
You will report into Project Manager, Value Creation.
Responsibilities
Project Delivery – 70%
- Work within cross-functional teams to design and execute sustainability value creation strategies across a range of industries
- Partner with portfolio company leadership to assess current sustainability performance and identify opportunities for improvement and growth
- Translate sustainability drivers (e.g., cost reductions, commercial demand, regulatory requirements, investor priorities,) into actionable business strategies
- Develop and implement roadmaps and KPIs to integrate sustainability into core business operations, governance, and reporting
- Support clients in preparing for external stakeholder scrutiny, including sustainability disclosures, and employee engagement, and sell-side due diligence
- Collaborate with SLR’s global sustainability and environmental consulting teams to deliver high-quality, client-ready deliverables, customized for the private market
- Seasonally (Q1), work closely with Malk’s Climate team to support greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reports and climate management, including being trained on our platform and the GHG Protocol
Business Development – 20%
- Contribute to business development initiatives by supporting proposals, scoping calls, and pitch materials for prospective clients
- Build trusted relationships with investors and corporate leaders to identify opportunities to expand Malk’s sustainability value creation offering
- Stay current on emerging regulations, frameworks, and stakeholder expectations to help shape client strategies and Malk’s market positioning
Innovation and Strategy – 10%
- Collaborate with the Malk’s Service Innovation team to evolve Malk’s sustainability value creation methodologies and tools
- Identify emerging client needs and market trends, and translate them into new service offerings or enhancements to existing products
- Pilot and refine innovative approaches to measuring and communicating sustainability’s contribution to enterprise value
Qualifications
Skills:
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to distill information, work through ambiguity, and deliver clear, structured outputs
- Demonstrated ability to translate qualitative and quantitative insights into actionable business recommendations
- A general understanding of sustainability and ESG topics, including how they intersect with business strategy, operations, and stakeholder expectations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including some comfort presenting to senior executives and investor audiences, and an eagerness to continue developing that skill
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Curious, positive, and entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement in sustainability strategy and reporting
- Proficiency in MS PowerPoint and MS Excel
Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, ESG/sustainability advisory, investment management or a related field
- Experience working with private market investors and sponsor-backed companies is a plus
Education:
- BA/BS degree from a reputable college or university; focus on business, economics, sustainability, or environmental studies a plus
Additional Details
Location: New York Office. Hybrid model: In-Office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Base Compensation: $80,000 (variable performance-based bonus)
