About the Role
Petco’s Strategy & Transformation team drives enterprise-wide initiatives that shape the future of our omnichannel pet care ecosystem — from new business incubation and digital retail growth to strategic partnerships and operational transformation.
We’re looking for a Senior Manager, Retail Strategy & Transformation with a consulting background and deep retail experience to lead strategic growth initiatives across Petco’s retail, digital, and services businesses. This role is ideal for someone from a Big 4 or top-tier consulting firm (Deloitte, Accenture, BCG, etc.) who has worked with leading retail or consumer clients and is ready to move into an operator role.
You’ll work cross-functionally with leaders in Merchandising, eCommerce, Supply Chain, Real Estate, and Marketing to identify new opportunities, assess markets, and turn bold ideas into scalable business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy Development & Incubation
- Partner with senior leadership to assess and incubate new business opportunities (e.g., Pet Rx, Pet Insurance, Digital Retail, Repeat Delivery).
- Conduct market and competitive assessments to identify growth areas, partnerships, or potential acquisitions.
- Translate high-level concepts into executable business plans with clear KPIs, financial models, and go-to-market strategies.
- Lead “tiger team” initiatives — fast-moving, cross-functional projects focused on testing and scaling high-impact ideas.
Transformation & Execution
- Lead cross-functional teams to execute transformation initiatives that improve customer experience, operational efficiency, and retail innovation.
- Drive change management to ensure successful adoption of new capabilities, processes, and technologies across the business.
Strategic Partnerships & Business Development
- Evaluate and manage strategic partnerships and ecosystem opportunities (e.g., insurance, pharmacy, digital services).
- Support M&A exploration, partnership structures, and capability build vs. buy analyses.
Retail & Omnichannel Expertise
- Leverage deep retail and eCommerce knowledge to advise on front-end (store experience, merchandising, customer engagement) and back-end (supply chain, inventory, fulfillment) transformation efforts.
- Collaborate with real estate, merchandising, and digital teams to optimize store strategy, omnichannel growth, and traffic-driving initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, or related field; MBA preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in management consulting or strategy, preferably with Big 4 or top-tier firms (Deloitte, Accenture, BCG, Bain).
- Significant experience in retail, consumer, or digital commerce strategy — including supply chain, store operations, or eCommerce.
- Proven ability to incubate and scale new business initiatives or partnerships.
- Strong analytical, financial modeling, and storytelling skills.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influence at senior levels.
- Experience leading cross-functional “tiger teams” and driving measurable transformation outcomes.
