About the Role
Ascend Group is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper to join our collaborative finance team.
This position is ideal for someone who:
- Has a strong foundation in accounting and bookkeeping,
- Enjoys working directly with clients, and
- Loves connecting financial data to real business insights.
You’ll work with experienced mentors, gain hands-on experience across multiple industries, and help business owners make confident, informed decisions.
Key Responsibilities
 - Perform Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and General Ledger (GL) entries
- Prepare account reconciliations and assist with month-end and year-end closings
- Maintain accurate financial records across multiple client accounts
- Support preparation of financial statements and management reports
- Communicate with clients regarding financial data, processes, and best practices
- Collaborate with internal team members to improve accounting systems and workflows
- Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned
Strengths You'll Bring
Education: Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent coursework/experience)
Experience: 1–3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience (client-facing or multi-entity experience a plus)
Technical Skills: Proficiency with QuickBooks, Xero, or similar accounting software; strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other productivity tools
Knowledge: Solid understanding of AP/AR, GL, and reconciliations; familiarity with GAAP principles preferred
Mindset & Soft Skills: Analytical, curious, and eager to learn; excellent communication and client relationship skills; organized, dependable, and proactive — thrives in a flexible, team-oriented environment
Work Environment
 - Hybrid work model: Primarily remote, with occasional onsite client visits
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, standard business hours (some flexibility available)
- Location: Vermont-based preferred or within reasonable travel distance for periodic client visits
