Quinn & Company is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Design Assistant to support our Lead Designer in executing residential interior design projects from design development through installation. In this entry-level role, you will play a key part in implementing established design concepts, managing project documentation, and coordinating procurement and installations. The ideal candidate is motivated, resourceful, and eager to learn the full process of bringing high-end interiors to life under the guidance of an experienced Lead Designer.
This position offers a hands-on opportunity to gain valuable experience across all phases of interior design while working in a collaborative, fast-paced studio environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design Development & Documentation
- Execute Design Concepts: Work from the Lead Designer’s established creative direction to prepare detailed design documentation and ensure accuracy across drawings and materials.
- Drawings & Technical Documentation: Create and update floor plans, elevations, and other drawings in AutoCAD, Revit, and/or SketchUp. Ensure documents are properly organized, detailed, and ready for client and vendor review.
- Finish & Fixture Documentation: Prepare and maintain finish schedules, furniture plans, and specification sheets under the supervision of the Lead Designer.
- Presentation Preparation: Assemble presentation materials such as digital boards, samples, and design documents for client and vendor meetings, ensuring accuracy and professional presentation.
Procurement & Project Coordination
- Vendor Coordination: Communicate with vendors and showrooms to request quotes, confirm pricing, and verify lead times. Maintain clear and professional communication throughout the procurement process.
- Ordering & Tracking: Prepare purchase orders, track order statuses, and maintain procurement spreadsheets to ensure all items are ordered and received according to project timelines.
- Budget Tracking: Assist in updating project budgets and maintaining accurate cost records. Support the Lead Designer in reconciling vendor invoices and order confirmations.
- Sample Management: Maintain the materials library and track samples requested for active projects. Ensure product information is current and easily accessible.
Installation & Project Delivery
- Installation Planning: Support the Lead Designer in coordinating installations, preparing delivery lists, and confirming schedules with vendors and installers.
- On-Site Support: Attend project installations to assist with unpacking, organizing, and setup under the direction of the Lead Designer. Document and track punch list items for follow-up.
- Post-Installation Follow-Up: Help ensure all outstanding tasks or items from installations are completed promptly and accurately.
Administrative & Studio Support
- Project Documentation: Maintain organized digital and physical project files, including drawings, specifications, and procurement records.
- Scheduling & Communication: Assist in scheduling meetings, maintaining project timelines, and recording meeting notes as needed.
- Studio Organization: Keep the design studio and sample library organized, updated, and presentable.
- Process Support: Contribute to maintaining and improving internal systems for documentation, order tracking, and client communication to enhance overall studio efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or a related field.
- Experience: 1–2 years of professional experience in a design firm or related field, preferably with exposure to residential interior design projects.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit, with familiarity in SketchUp for 3D modeling. Strong proficiency with MacOS required.
- Organization & Detail Orientation: Exceptional attention to detail and organization in managing documentation, drawings, and procurement records.
- Communication & Collaboration: Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal. Comfortable interacting with vendors, contractors, and clients under the direction of the Lead Designer.
- Time Management: Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Work Ethic & Flexibility: Dependable, proactive, and eager to learn. Comfortable working under supervision while demonstrating initiative and accountability.
- Transportation: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for local site visits, showroom trips, and project installations.
