Job Description:
The Cedars is actively seeking a highly motivated and resourceful finance/accounting leader to join our team as a Controller. In this crucial role, you will work directly with the senior management team and manage a team of three, overseeing all accounting and reporting functions while preparing financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This is an in-person position.

Responsibilities:
Staff Management and Leadership:
- Provide leadership and management to the accounting team, which includes Accounting, Payroll and Billing staff.
- Ensure the team has the support and resources needed to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
- Foster a service-focused approach to their work.
Accounting Management, Budgeting, and Financial Reporting:
- Oversee the timely and accurate preparation and presentation of monthly financial statements and year-end reporting.
- Monitor cash flow
- Coordinate annual operating and capital budgets, monitor and report on actual versus budget results.
- Collaborate with external audit firms to complete the annual audit and file the annual IRS Form 990.
Audit and Compliance:
- Coordinate the annual audit with an external CPA firm.
- Oversee the preparation of the annual Medicare and Medicaid cost reports.
- Maintain oversight of all Medicare/Medicaid-related activities to ensure maximum reimbursement and compliance with applicable laws.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare accounting, including supervisory roles and progressively increasing responsibilities.
- A proven track record of successful staff leadership and development.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with Microsoft GP accounting software and ADP payroll software.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience related to Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement issues within a healthcare environment.
- In-depth knowledge of all aspects of the MaineCare and Medicare programs.
- Understanding of federal and state regulations for residential, skilled, and long-term care.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting is required
