Senior Contract Mechanical Engineer – Industrial Manufacturing
Location: Memphis, TN
Contract: Open-Ended Contract Position
We are supporting an industrial manufacturing facility in identifying a Senior Contract Mechanical Engineer with deep engineering expertise to supplement the site’s technical team. This role is heavily engineering-driven, not maintenance supervision or administrative project management. The focus is on mechanical system design, equipment reliability, and manufacturing process support within an operating production environment.
The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of experience applying mechanical engineering principles directly to manufacturing assets, capital equipment, and process-critical systems.
Technical Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical engineering support for production equipment, utilities, and manufacturing processes
- Perform engineering calculations, design reviews, and failure analysis on mechanical systems and components
- Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and corrective action development for recurring equipment issues
- Support capital projects including equipment specification, mechanical design, installation, and commissioning
- Develop and review P&IDs, mechanical layouts, fabrication drawings, and equipment datasheets
- Evaluate and improve equipment reliability, maintainability, and uptime using sound engineering practices
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and internal engineering specifications
Equipment & Systems Exposure
- Rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, gearboxes, conveyors)
- Piping systems, pressure-containing equipment, and mechanical utilities
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Material handling and heavy industrial machinery
- Manufacturing support systems (cooling water, compressed air, vacuum, etc.)
Required Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred
- 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in industrial or manufacturing environments
- Strong foundation in mechanical design, analysis, and applied engineering
- Proven experience working in operating plants (as opposed to design-only environments)

Pay: $75.00 - $85.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
