We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and certification of high-pressure Type 3 and Type 4 cylinders. This role is critical to advancing composite pressure vessel technology while ensuring product safety, regulatory compliance, performance, quality, and cost targets are achieved from concept through production launch.
- Lead design and development of high-pressure Type 3 and Type 4 cylinders.
- Ensure product safety through hazard analysis, FMEA, and validation testing.
- Develop CAD models, drawings, and specifications for liners, composite overwraps, and interfaces.
- Perform and interpret structural analysis, testing, and failure investigations.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, NGV, ISO, and ASME standards.
- Support certification activities and interface with regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams.
- Drive cost reduction, material optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support root cause analysis for development, production, or field issues.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required (Master’s preferred).
5–7 years of overall engineering experience with 3+ years in high-pressure cylinder or pressure vessel development.
Education and/or experience with composite materials, preferably HDPE liners and carbon fiber overwrapped structures.
Proficiency in CAD and analysis tools (FEA).
- Experience with Type 3 and Type 4 pressure vessels.
- Working knowledge of NGV, ISO, DOT, and ASME standards.
- Lean or Six Sigma experience.
- Project management or certification experience.
Ability to support certification activities in compliance with applicable regulatory standards. Professional Engineering (PE) license or PMP certification is a plus.
This position is primarily office-based with periodic presence in manufacturing and test environments. May require occasional lifting up to 25 lbs and use of standard PPE in production areas.
Office and manufacturing environments. Occasional exposure to production floor conditions, including noise and industrial equipment.
