Project Accountant
Pay: $40/hr - $55hr DOE
Schedule: 8am - 5pm M-F

Our client, a leading construction firm specializing in affordable housing, is looking for a Project Accountant to join their team in Woodland Hills. This company is known for its commitment to excellence and dedication to delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget.
Summary
- Responsible for the full-cycle financial management of assigned construction projects.
- Partners closely with Project Managers to oversee:
- Job cost tracking.
- Subcontractor billing.
- Owner billings (AIA).
- Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.
- Ideal candidate brings strong construction accounting experience and a proactive approach to managing project financial performance.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day accounting for assigned projects from project setup through closeout.
- Prepare and submit owner billings, including AIA G702/G703 pay applications.
- Review, process, and track subcontractor pay applications, including compliance
- Maintain and reconcile job costs, commitments, and cost-to-complete projections.
- Monitor project budgets vs. actuals and partner with Project Managers to identify risks and variances.
- Ensure accurate cost coding and allocation across all project expenses.
- Track and manage retainage (AR/AP) and ensure proper release upon project milestones.
- Process and track change orders for both subcontractors and owners.
- Prepare and update Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, including revenue recognition (POC).
- Support month-end close, including accruals, journal entries, and reconciliations.
- Assist with audit and surety reporting, including preparation of required schedules and documentation.
- Maintain complete and organized project financial files.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Must have experience with AIA billing (G702/G703) and AIA/WIP
- 3–7 years of experience in construction accounting, preferably with a general contractor.
- Subcontractors pay applications and compliance tracking.
- Job cost accounting and WIP reporting.
- Percentage-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition.
- Construction accounting systems (YARDI, Sage 300/Timberline, Procore, Viewpoint, CMiC, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple active projects.
- Experience with surety bonding and financial reporting.
- Familiarity with union and certified payroll environments.
- CPA or progress toward certification.
- Strong ownership of project financials.
- Analytical and detail-oriented.
- Effective cross-functional communication with operations teams.
- Ability to identify issues and proactively recommend solutions.
Pay: $40.00 - $55.00 per hour
