Overview
We are seeking a talented and motivated Design Drafter to join our dynamic team! The Designer / Drafter is responsible for developing and maintaining accurate fabrication drawings, 3D models, and design documentation for tanks and custom steel projects. This role converts customer requirements, sketches, and engineering concepts into manufacturable drawings that meet internal quality standards and customer specifications. The Designer / Drafter supports project execution by ensuring drawings are clear, complete, and controlled per ISO 9001 document management procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Design & Drafting
- Create 2D drawings and 3D models for tanks, skids, frames, and other fabricated products.
- Interpret customer drawings, specifications, and data sheets to produce compliant designs.
- Develop fabrication and assembly drawings with dimensions, weld callouts, and tolerances.
- Generate bill of materials (BOM) for each project.
- Ensure all drawings adhere to company drafting and revision standards
2. Document Control & Revision Management
- Maintain revision control for drawings and ensure all versions are properly labeled and filed.
- Coordinate with the Quality Department to ensure drawings meet ISO 9001 documentation requirements.
- Update existing drawings and ensure superseded versions are archived.
- Release approved drawings to production and notify affected departments of revisions.
- Maintain drawing logs and revision history records.
3. Collaboration & Project Support
- Work with Project Managers to clarify design intent and project scope.
- Collaborate with the Shop Manager and welders/fabricators to ensure designs are manufacturable.
- Communicate with customers or engineers to resolve drawing discrepancies.
- Attend project kickoff or design review meetings as needed.
Competencies
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, and assembly practices
- Knowledge of ASME or API tank standards preferred
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Collaboration and communication with cross-functional teams
- Time management and task prioritization
- Documentation and ISO 9001 awareness
Education & Experience
- Associate degree or technical certification in Drafting, Design Technology, or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of drafting experience in manufacturing or metal fabrication.
- Proficient in CAD systems and Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 document control requirements.
- Experience with tank, pressure vessel, or structural design preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $36.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
