Web & Graphic Designer — Chive | Toronto, ON (On-site) | Full-time
So, here's the thing. We sell things. Beautiful things, actually — all designed by us, which we mention not to brag but because it genuinely matters, and also because we've found that people who care about that sort of detail tend to be our kind of people.
We show up in Paris, Frankfurt, London, and New York, which sounds more glamorous than it is, though it is, admittedly, quite glamorous. Back home in Toronto, we keep a plant shop because we are, at our core, nerds who find chlorophyll soothing. The office is at Queen and Soho, a real office, with desks and everything, because we've tried the alternative and we didn't care for it.
We are looking for a Web & Graphic Designer to join the Chive creative team. You would be working on our Shopify site — evolving it, improving it, resisting the urge to burn it down and start over (we've all been there). You'd make sure that shopify is behaving, collaborate with our Digital Marketing team, and occasionally wander into a photo shoot looking purposeful.
The role is hands-on. The team is small. The plants are numerous and doing fine, thank you for asking.
If you are creative, detail-oriented, and the kind of person who notices when a font is slightly wrong and cannot simply let it go — we'd very much like to meet you.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Update, improve, and expand our Shopify website — including content refreshes, layout enhancements, and building new sections.
• Build, maintain, and promote existing web pages within Shopify.
• Leverage AI tools (such as Claude) to accelerate research, generate content snippets, and solve problems efficiently.
• Apply a working knowledge of HTML/CSS to support front-end updates and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with the Digital Marketing team to upload and manage website content.
• Design polished graphic and web assets that elevate the quality and consistency of our brand online.
• Support our in-house photographer with photo shoots and post-production editing as needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
• HTML & CSS
• Strong composition and colour theory skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
• A self-starter who thrives both independently and within a team
QUALIFICATIONS
• Degree in Web Design, Graphic Design, or a related field — or a minimum of 3 years of equivalent hands-on experience.
• Must be located within commuting distance of Downtown Toronto.
• Experience with Shopify.
• Experience with Esty and Faire is a bonus.
• A genuine passion for all aspects of design and a strong desire to keep learning and growing.
