Interim VP, Corporate FP&A
Our Client, a diversified, publicly traded holding company consisting of businesses with different operating models, financial drivers, and capital requirements, is seeking an Interim VP, Corporate FP&A to lead and modernize its Corporate FP&A function. This is a 6 month engagement to start.
Location: Los Angeles, CA - candidates must be local to Southern California and available for occasional in-person meetings (2+ times per month)
Reporting To: Chief Financial Officer
About the Role
In this organization’s structure, individual operating companies maintain their own finance and FP&A capabilities, while Corporate FP&A provides the enterprise-wide view — consolidation, planning discipline, and financial challenge across the portfolio. Corporate FP&A is intentionally lean, and this person will lead the function while working through and influencing finance leaders embedded within the individual operating companies.
What You’ll Do
- Lead Corporate FP&A, coordinating and consolidating the annual budget, forecasting, and long-range planning processes across multiple businesses
- Consolidate information from individual operating companies to provide the CFO and senior leadership with an enterprise-level view of performance, risks, and opportunities
- Challenge operating-company forecasts and assumptions rather than simply aggregating submissions
- Build and deliver strong financial modeling, forecasting, scenario analysis, and executive-level presentations
- Partner closely with Corporate Accounting/Controllership to ensure alignment between FP&A and accounting in a public-company environment
- Drive process improvement and modernization of the FP&A organization, including evaluating a move away from Excel toward a more scalable enterprise planning platform
- Operate hands-on within a small, lean Corporate FP&A team
- Engage regularly and effectively with the CFO, Controller, Treasurer, and senior operating-company executives
Required Qualifications
- Current or recent public-company FP&A experience
- Meaningful experience in Corporate FP&A specifically — not solely divisional, business-unit, or commercial finance
- Experience operating at the corporate level of a company with multiple divisions, operating companies, reporting segments, or materially different lines of business
- Experience coordinating and consolidating annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning across multiple businesses
- Strong understanding of the relationship between Corporate FP&A and Corporate Accounting/Controllership in a public-company environment
- Strong financial statement knowledge across the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement
- Strong modeling, forecasting, scenario analysis, and executive-level presentation skills
- Demonstrated experience and comfort challenging forecasts/assumptions rather than simply aggregating them
- Demonstrated interest in driving change, improving processes, and modernizing an FP&A organization
- Executive presence and communication skills appropriate for frequent interaction with senior leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- Public accounting background and/or strong accounting foundation
- Experience in a diversified holding company or multi-segment public company
- Experience implementing or materially upgrading an enterprise budgeting/planning platform (e.g., Hyperion/Oracle EPM, OneStream, Anaplan, Adaptive, or equivalent)
- Experience moving a consolidated planning process out of Excel and into a scalable FP&A platform
- Exposure to Board reporting, quarterly earnings, Investor Relations, or external financial guidance
- Experience supporting capital allocation, investments, acquisitions/divestitures, or portfolio-level decision-making
- Experience working in a manual/less-automated environment
- CPA, MBA, or CFA
