Purpose of the Role
The Manager of Software Development is a key leadership position responsible for shaping and executing the strategic vision for DSS, Foster Consulting’s proprietary software platform. This role bridges the gap between our developers and management, fostering a unified approach that eliminates the traditional divide between front-end and back-end teams.
The Manager will lead a high-performing team of developers delivering scalable, secure, and transformative software solutions that empower Foster Consulting to maintain its leadership in technological advancement and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the DSS development strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and outcomes.
- Manage and oversee a team of six to eight developers and technical staff from a diverse range of geographic, ethnic, and technical backgrounds, all working remotely.
- Develop and maintain a multi-year technology roadmap to support company growth and market competitiveness.
- Oversee and contribute to the full software development lifecycle, ensuring timely delivery, scalability, and reliability.
- Champion innovation by evaluating emerging technologies, running proof-of-concepts, and implementing best practices.
- Establish and enforce robust testing, QA, and code review standards to ensure high-quality outputs.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to DSS development, including compliance and data security.
- Translate business needs into actionable technical solutions while effectively communicating with executives and stakeholders.
- Ensure DSS meets user needs through continuous monitoring of customer feedback, adoption, and usability analytics.
Key Competencies
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a full-stack developer with proven proficiency in technologies aligned with our evolving tech stack, including Git, Node.js, JavaScript, Coldfusion, and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experienced in industry-leading email marketing platforms (CRM) and CMS platforms such as WordPress, HubSpot, Constant Contact, and Drupal
- Must possess the technical depth to critically evaluate and provide oversight on both front-end and back-end development work.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve complex technical issues.
- Strategic thinking with the ability to align technology with long-term business objectives.
- Effective collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present to executives and stakeholders.
- Leadership and mentoring experience with a proven track record of building high-performing teams.
- Keen attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality, bug-free software.
- Business acumen with an understanding of financial and operational impacts of technology decisions.
