UNIVERSAL Technologies is seeking a Mainframe z/OS DB2 Systems Programmer for a remote position, candidates with an active LinkedIn preferred. The right candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and serviceability of the DB2 subsystem within a large enterprise z/OS environment. The consultant will provide advanced technical support and guidance for installation, upgrades, diagnosis, and performance tuning of DB2 and related OEM products. This role requires a seasoned mainframe professional capable of supporting mission-critical systems, performing system recovery, and leading technical initiatives to optimize performance and maintain system integrity.

MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience (10+ years).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience working with z/OS, including JES2, SMP/E, TSO, IOCP/HCD, IBM utilities (e.g., IDCAMS, IEFBR14), program product installations, and Unix System Services.
- Proven experience supporting and maintaining DB2 subsystems in a z/OS environment.
- Expertise in DB2 software installation, upgrades, maintenance, and performance tuning for optimal resource utilization.
- Experience with DB2 database system recovery and diagnosing/resolving complex DB2 and related product issues.
- Strong understanding of SMP/E and its role in the installation process.
- Hands-on experience conducting ongoing mainframe maintenance, including installing, patching, upgrading, and administering z/OS and related system software (e.g., database, transaction server, security management, scheduling, report distribution).
- Working knowledge of VTAM, TCP/IP, and enterprise-wide, large-scale implementations.
- Experience with mainframe CPU installations as a systems programmer.
- Familiarity with CICS, IMS, and AFP printing.
- Experience using monitoring tools such as OMEGAMON.
- Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Must be available to provide production off-hour coverage and support periodic weekend implementations.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
- Support and maintain DB2 subsystems in a z/OS environment.
- Perform software installations, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance for DB2 and related OEM products.
- Diagnose and resolve performance or configuration issues related to DB2 and associated systems.
- Tune DB2 for optimal performance and efficient resource utilization.
- Lead the implementation of best practices for DB2 system reliability, availability, and serviceability.
- Provide documentation and technical leadership for DB2 system operations and standards.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to ensure DB2 system integration and support.
- Support production and test environments, including off-hour and weekend coverage as required.
