As an entry level engineer at Nalas, an Associate Process Engineer will be part of a team responsible for the synthesis, development and analysis of novel materials and/or crystallization processes. Under guidance, an Associate Process Engineer will develop the technical knowledge to operate automated lab reactors and process analytical tools and become familiar with MT suite of hardware and software. An Associate Process Engineer will become familiar with data processing and reporting including mass and energy balances, reaction kinetics and crystallization. An Associate Process Engineer will work closely with senior scientists to discuss data, recognize erroneous and/or unexpected results, interpret and analyze those results, and make recommendations based on their own analysis and conclusions. An Associate Process Engineer will develop technical writing skills and present experimental results internally to the Nalas team. It is critical an Associate Process Engineer becomes familiar with aspects of project management, developing an understanding of timeline and budget. An Associate Process Engineer is expected to always operate in a safe and efficient manner, while becoming familiar with the Nalas Quality culture.
An Associate Process Engineer is encouraged to be creative and take initiative, where appropriate, while relying on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Although an Associate Process Engineer works under guidance from senior mentors and management, latitude and creativity for discretionary decisions and independence of action within guidelines established by their supervisor will be granted.
Position Requirements
Qualifications and skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Basic knowledge of analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving techniques necessary to perform scientific/engineering work.
- Experience in generating and manipulating data, as well as computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and SciFinder.
- Good interpersonal, communication, organizational, teamwork and time management skills are essential.
Technical Contributions
- Develop knowledge in a state-of the art chemical development laboratory including automated lab reactors, process analytical tools and various off-line analytical tools.
- Develop technical and operational proficiency in solving problems.
- Develop knowledge of appropriate method development approaches, experimentation, validation and data analysis.
- Develop the ability to collect experimental data, make observations, and propose scientific conclusions based on data analysis. The results of these studies will impact research plans.
- Conduct experiments within a defined project to generate reproducible data with supervision.
- Learn skills in chemical engineering including mass and energy balances.
- Develop the knowledge of related areas in unit operations such as reaction kinetics, crystallization and isolation techniques.
- Develop the ability to effectively gather, integrate and report experimental results.
- Become familiar with different types of analytical data produced.
- Become proficient in literature searching and understand the technical literature.
Lab Proficiency
- Operate in a safe and efficient manner and follows Nalas SAF Procedures.
- Become familiar with MT suite of hardware and software.
- Participate and support writing of laboratory review forms (LRF's).
Customer-Facing Contributions
- Develop technical writing skills.
- Learn to effectively convey experimental results into report.
- Present internally with guidance.
Project Management
- Work closely under the direction of your manager and task/technical lead to manage and prioritize workload.
- Become familiar with Nalas billing structures, assignments, timeline and budget constraints.
Quality
- Become familiar with the Nalas Quality culture and follow Quality System Operating Procedures (QSOPs).
- Receive training on Good Document Practices, Controlled Document Program, and Quality Manual.

· HAZARDOUS DUTY: Incumbent is regularly exposed to the hazard of chemical and explosive ingredients. The danger inherent in this type of work cannot be completely eliminated by established SOP's and/or safety equipment. Incumbent may be responsible for hazardous and universal waste collection, consolidation, segregation, and proper storage and labeling. Incumbent may be responsible for performing emergency response activities, emergency response clean-up, hazardous waste clean-up, and the handling of hazardous waste materials when training is provided.
