The DC LGBTQ+ Community Center supports and empowers the LGBTQ+ community of the District through programs that promote health, wellness, arts, culture, and advocacy. Our mission is to celebrate diversity, strengthen community connections, and create a safe and affirming space for all LGBTQ+ individuals.
Position Description:
The Social Media and Marketing Associate will assist with creating and executing digital content that promotes the DC Center’s programs, events, and community initiatives. This position focuses on building engagement across multiple platforms—including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn—while maintaining a consistent brand voice and visual identity.
The associate will help design and schedule posts, craft compelling captions, and develop creative campaigns that highlight the Center’s mission and services. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in communications, marketing, public relations, or digital media, who want hands-on experience in social impact storytelling and nonprofit outreach.
Responsibilities Include:
- Creating and scheduling social media content across platforms
- Writing engaging, inclusive, and informative captions and copy
- Designing graphics and promotional materials using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
- Assisting with email newsletters and digital campaigns
- Tracking social media analytics and engagement metrics
- Supporting communications around events, programs, and community announcements
- Assisting Front Desk/Supportive Services Team
Qualifications:
- Strong writing and visual storytelling skills
- Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc)
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools
- Experience with scheduling software
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Creative, organized, and passionate about LGBTQ+ advocacy and community engagement
- Candidates should identify as LGBTQ+ community members

Time Commitment:
- 20 hours per week
- Preferably afternoons, Monday through Friday, 2pm - 6pm
- In-person only, not hybrid or remote
- Position duration: January through May (or possibly longer)
