Duties
- Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring compliance with current laws and regulations.
- Conduct detailed tax research on issues such as estate planning, securities law, and non-profit accounting to inform strategic decisions.
- Assist with tax planning initiatives including estate planning, mergers & acquisitions, and asset management strategies.
- Support internal audits by providing documentation related to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and financial reporting accuracy.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, perform balance sheet reconciliations, and ensure proper account analysis using accounting software like QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar tools.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on financial report writing and interpretation to support executive decision-making.
- Manage accounts payable processes related to tax payments and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Contribute to budgeting activities by analyzing financial data and preparing detailed reports for management review.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), tax laws, and industry regulations to ensure compliance.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including asset management reports and financial analysis documents.
- Support payroll processing activities by ensuring accurate tax deductions and compliance with relevant laws.
- Participate in internal control assessments related to SOX compliance and implement process improvements where necessary.
Skills
- Extensive experience in tax accounting with a strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or equivalent platforms; familiarity with financial software tools is essential.
- Solid knowledge of GAAP standards, financial concepts, double entry bookkeeping, and general ledger reconciliation techniques.
- Expertise in estate planning, wills & trusts law, securities law, non-profit accounting, private equity, mergers & acquisitions, and regulatory reporting.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately; excellent account reconciliation skills are a must.
- Ability to perform detailed financial analysis and prepare comprehensive financial report writing tailored for diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with auditing procedures including SOX controls; experience supporting internal or external audits is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of various accounting methods such as accrual basis accounting and cash basis accounting; experience with budgeting processes is a plus.
- Technical proficiency in accounting software like QuickBooks, Xero, Sage or similar platforms; experience with payroll systems is advantageous.
- Excellent understanding of financial statement preparation including balance sheets and income statements; ability to analyze financial statements effectively.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating across departments on investment strategies or financial services initiatives; ability to explain complex concepts clearly is key.
