Major Gifts Officer (Fundraising & Donor Portfolio Management) with demonstrated success in fundraising, donor portfolio management, and relationship based giving within the Hawai'i community.
This position requires a professional who has personally managed donor portfolios, solicited gifts, and leveraged existing community relationships to drive philanthropic revenue.
About the Role The
Major Gifts Officer is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of major and leadership donors, including planned and legacy gifts. This role serves as a frontfacing fundraiser and donor manager, with accountability for cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and donor engagement.
Success in this role depends on strong, established ties within Hawai'i’s philanthropic, nonprofit, business, or professional communities and comfort operating as a visible representative of the organization.
Core Responsibilities Major Gifts & Planned Giving
Manage a defined portfolio of major and leadership donors
Personally conduct donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
Grow gift levels through strategic relationship management and planned giving conversations
Work with professional advisors (as applicable) to support legacy and estate gifts
Donor Portfolio & Community Engagement
Leverage existing Hawai'i-based relationships to deepen donor engagement and expand the donor pipeline
Maintain regular inperson donor contact (meetings, lunches, site visits, events)
Represent the organization at donor meetings and community functions as a fundraising ambassador
Events & Fundraising Activities
Plan and execute donorfocused fundraising and cultivation events (e.g., appreciation dinners, donor gatherings, workshops)
Use events strategically as tools for donor stewardship and upgrade, not just engagement
Partner internally to ensure events align with fundraising goals and donor strategy
Reporting, Tracking & Accountability
Track donor activity, portfolios, and revenue progress in a fundraising CRM
Maintain accurate donor records, pledge tracking, and pipeline reporting
Monitor progress toward fundraising goals and provide regular performance updates
Required Qualifications To ensure alignment with the role’s fundraising demands, qualified candidates will bring:
Proven experience in fundraising, with direct responsibility for major gifts and/or donor portfolios
Demonstrated success in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
Strong, existing connections within the Hawai'i community (nonprofit, business, philanthropic, or professional networks)
Comfort with frequent inperson donor engagement and community presence
Experience using fundraising CRMs and donor management systems
Strong attention to detail, followthrough, and revenue accountability
Bachelor’s degree preferred; CFRE a plus (or willingness to pursue)
Compensation Compensation is based on skills, experience, and demonstrated fundraising qualifications. The anticipated salary range is $75,000 – $85,000, with final compensation determined by multiple factors including experience, credentials, and scope of prior responsibility.
