Position Overview
The new hire in NBA G League Basketball Operations will play a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives of the league’s basketball ecosystem. This position will be a generalist and key coordinator across all verticals of the NBA G League, including but not limited to ensuring compliance with new league standards related to the long-term CBA, contributing to the development and implementation of experimental rules, and assisting in delivering high-quality league events and programs. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments, and a deep understanding of basketball operations to maintain the integrity and growth of the league.
Key Responsibilities
Game Operations and Basketball Operations Oversight
- Review nightly game reports to ensure accuracy and adherence to league protocols, including addressing operational issues impacting game quality and consistency
- Support regular management of the G League Basketball Operations portal to ensure we have data in a timely manner
- Miscellaneous administrative duties (Uber benefit management, Operations Manual changes, Scorer’s Table background checks, etc.)
Compliance and Team Engagement
- Monitor and enforce compliance with league standards through team visits and evaluations
- Provide feedback and recommendations to improve team operations and player experience
- Maintain notes from key team stakeholder meetings
Basketball Strategy and Rules Innovation
- Assist in the review and assessment of experimental rules, including data collection and reporting
- Coordinate internal collaboration with stakeholders to evaluate rule impact on key areas of R&D, such as game flow and player development
Event and Program Execution
- Assist in project management and planning of major league events via maintenance of event planning trackers and work with internal stakeholders
- Support player travel coordination and itineraries for events
- Act as a generalist for major league events (e.g., Showcase, Next Up, International Competitions, Coaches Clinics), via on-site execution and operational support
Player Matters and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Support
- Support league obligations under the CBA, including participation in the Player Development Committee as well as other programs and player welfare initiatives
- Assist with annual player onboarding processes (player identification, background checks, contract process) as well as in-season administrative matters (payroll, contract management systems)
