Editorial Assistant, Disney Hyperion (Full Time, New York)

Reports to: Editorial Director
We are seeking a motivated, energetic, creative, and incredibly detail-oriented Editorial Assistant to support key Disney Hyperion publishing programs. The Editorial Assistant will report to the Editorial Director, and work closely with the entire editorial team. Must be passionate about children’s books and Disney entertainment properties, have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and excel at managing multiple responsibilities and deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.
Responsibilities Include
- Support management of key publishing programs
- Participate in creative brainstorming meetings
- Liaise with various Departments including Design, Marketing, Publicity, Sales, and Content Packaging
- Prepare acquisition paperwork, including acquisitions memos and P&Ls; track paperwork for approved projects through the acquisitions process
- Set up acquired projects in title management system
- Draft fact sheets, catalog copy, bound galley copy, and jacket/cover copy
- Send stages of proofs to authors/illustrators for review
- Request ISBNs and maintain title system
- Manage and process payments for titles; track payments and troubleshoot problems
- Order author/illustrator and agent complimentary copies of new releases
- Create and manage power point presentations as needed
The Candidate Should Have
- 4 year college degree
- Proficiency in Office suite
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize in a high-volume environment
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal & written
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task successfully
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Strong interest in and knowledge of commercial children’s fiction
- Design program knowledge a plus
- The ability to brainstorm new ideas with a large team
The hiring range for this position in New York is $42,600.00-$57,000.00. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
