We are seeking a Design Safety Compliance Engineer for our Baltimore-based U.S. operation to oversee safety compliance operations for both modular conveyors and integrated conveyance systems. This role will be tasked with ensuring these platforms’ adherence to established safety processes, driving continuous improvement, and supporting the expansion of safety compliance practices to cover complex integrated solutions.
The role will collaborate effectively with our assembly, engineering and project management teams globally, and with our Quality, Product Stewardship and Legal/Risk teams, to achieve excellence in delivering equipment safety and compliance across the global organization.
The successful candidate will combine deep knowledge of relevant safety standards with strong process management, training, and collaboration skills. This role is critical in ensuring that safety considerations are embedded in both design and verification phases.

Key Responsibilities
Process Ownership & Improvement
- Ensure adherence to existing design safety processes for automated equipment.
- Expand safety processes to include integrated multi-equipment systems.
- Continuously evaluate, refine, and improve compliance processes to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
Training & Guidance
- Assist in developing and delivering training programs to educate design and engineering teams on established safety processes.
- Act as the primary point of contact for U.S.-based team members with questions about design safety.
Safety Assessments & Compliance Reviews
- Conduct and review safety risk assessments for both individual equipment and integrated systems.
- Support the integration of “design for safety” principles throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Verify safety design compliance through reviews and prototype validation.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Be prepared to act as a key contact for addressing customer inquiries and concerns related to equipment and system safety.
- Collaborate with other equipment assembly centers and cross-functional teams (engineering, project management, quality, Legal and customer support) to ensure alignment on safety practices.
Regulatory Knowledge & Application
- Maintain deep familiarity with and ensure compliance to relevant safety standards and regulations, including but not limited to:
- OSHA and ASME and NFPA standards
- EU Machinery Regulation and machinery normative standards.
- Other applicable national and international safety regulations and directives.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in equipment safety, compliance, or design engineering (preferably in automation or industrial machinery).
- Experience with both standalone equipment and integrated system design strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards (including both OSHA/ASME and EU Machinery Regulation)
- Proven ability to conduct and review risk assessments in accordance with ISO 12100.
- Excellent communication skills, with ability to train and mentor others at multiple levels.
- Strong problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and manage customer-facing safety discussions.
- Willing to travel up to 25% (domestic and international).
Certifications (Preferred)
- Certified Machinery Safety Expert (CMSE) or equivalent.
- Functional Safety certification (e.g., TÜV, CFSE, or equivalent).

The position is eligible for one of the following: commissions, discretionary incentives, or production incentives according to the terms of those plans
Salary Range $56,600 to $160,800.
