The City of Murphy seeks to add a
Communications & Marketing Coordinator to its dynamic team! Under general direction of the Administrative Services Director, the
Communications & Marketing Coordinator is responsible for planning, creating, and coordinating communication and marketing efforts that promote City services, programs, initiatives, events, businesses, and community priorities. The position serves as the City's primary storyteller and public information resource by producing engaging content, managing multimedia communication channels, strengthening the City's brand, and keeping internal and external stakeholders informed and engaged. Works across all City departments to ensure public communications are relevant, accurate, consistent, timely, and aligned with City goals and objectives.

Exempt and budgeted on Pay Grade #33.
The pay plan range below is shown to represent opportunities for growth and development within this opportunity. We are seeking to hire between the Min to Mid-range of the pay grade shown dependent upon qualifications.
Min $61,615.80
Mid $73,938.96
Max $86,262.12

Examples of Duties
Strategic Communications & Marketing
- Implement creative and innovative communication and marketing campaigns to share the City’s story and increase awareness of City services, businesses, projects, programs, events, and initiatives.
- Proactively identify communications opportunities and advise on messaging strategies.
- Evaluate communication and marketing efforts and recommend improvements based on performance data and feedback.
Digital Communications & Social Media
- Manage and maintain digital communication channels including the website, social media platforms, email communications, and other online communication resources
- Monitor digital engagement, comments, and messages on City platforms and ensure appropriate and timely responses or coordination of responses as needed.
- Monitor performance metrics to evaluate communication effectiveness on digital media platforms and identify opportunities for improvement.
Content Creation & Creative Services
- Serve as the City’s primary content creator for multimedia communications by producing written, graphic design, photographic, and video content that promotes City services, programs, initiatives, events, and priorities.
- Translate City information and updates into clear, engaging, and easy-to-understand content for residents across multiple platforms, including social media, website, newsletters, presentations, and printed materials.
- Plan, capture, and produce photography and video content to support storytelling, marketing campaigns, public information, and community engagement efforts.
- Maintain and organize the City’s content production schedule and publication timelines to ensure communication materials are delivered consistently, accurately, and on time.
- Maintain, organize, and manage the City’s photo and video archive to ensure multimedia assets are properly stored, easily accessible, and available for use in communication, marketing, and public information efforts.
Brand Management
- Protect the City's brand by ensuring visual identity, messaging, and communication standards are consistently applied across all communication platforms.
- Support efforts that strengthen organizational reputation and public trust through professional, accurate, and cohesive communications.
- Manage the City-branded merchandise program through the Murphy General Store to promote community pride, civic engagement, and brand awareness
Public Information & Media Relations
- Serve as the City’s primary public information resource by preparing and distributing public information materials including news releases, media advisories, statements, and public notices to inform residents, stakeholders, and the media on City projects, initiatives, accomplishments, community issues.
- Serve as the City's media liaison by responding to media inquiries, coordinating interviews, gathering information, and facilitating timely and accurate communication between the City and news outlets.
- Support communication efforts during emergencies, service disruptions, and other situations requiring timely public information.
Internal Communications
- Support HR with the development and distribution of internal communication materials that keep employees informed about organizational initiatives, projects, programs, and announcements.
- Serve on the City's Culture Committee and support employee engagement initiatives that foster a positive workplace culture, organizational awareness, and employee connection.
Typical Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or closely related field;
- Two (2) years previous experience in government or a corporate communication environment that includes public relations, communications, journalism, writing, or marketing;
- Valid State of Texas Class C driver’s license
Supplemental Information
- Attend City Council meetings and other after hours public meetings or events as required
- Maintain availability outside of normal business hours, as needed, to support urgent communications, emergency response efforts, service disruptions, and other time-sensitive public information needs.
- Local Government experience preferred.
