Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Finance & Accounting Manager to oversee the daily accounting operations for a cannabis business operating in a regulated environment. This role requires strong QuickBooks expertise, experience managing high-volume transactions, and the ability to navigate cannabis-specific financial compliance (280E, cash controls, and inventory tracking).
This is a working manager role, meaning you will be directly involved in the day-to-day accounting activities while also supporting financial oversight, compliance, and process improvements. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in a fast-paced, highly regulated, and largely cash-based environment.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Accounting
- Perform and oversee daily accounting operations:
- Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
- General Ledger (GL) entries, journal entries, and reconciliations
- Manage high-volume transactions and maintain accurate records in QuickBooks
- Execute month-end and year-end close
- Prepare financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
- Perform bank, cash, and account reconciliations
- Maintain detailed and audit-ready financial documentation
- Support ongoing bookkeeping functions as needed
Leadership
- Provide oversight to bookkeeping/accounting support staff
- Collaborate with leadership on financial health and reporting
- Recommend improvements to scale accounting operations as the business grows
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in financial management, preferably in the cannabis, manufacturing, or retail industry
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, tax laws, and regulatory requirements
- Experience with financial software e.g., QuickBooks Online preferred
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Experience working in a high-regulation industry is a plus
- Must pass background checks and comply with state cannabis regulations.
