Position Overview:
The General Audience (GA) Publicity team at PBS is seeking a motivated communications professional to support publicity efforts for our award-winning programming.
The Publicity team is responsible for generating media coverage, managing press resources, and supporting events that connect PBS programming with press, stations, and the public. This role will assist with daily administrative operations and provide PBS PressRoom maintenance, press and social media support, and event logistical support. Additional responsibilities include budget tracking, vendor management, and developing media lists.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
PressRoom & Asset Management
- Upload and maintain promotional materials (photos, bios, press releases, program listings, screeners) on the PBS PressRoom.
- Ensure assets are accurate, consistent, and delivered on time to stations and media.
- Serve as liaison with PBS programming, external producers, and PR agencies to secure promotional materials.
- Support the technical operations of the PBS PressRoom, including vendor relations, backend functionality, analytics, and site performance.
Media & Publicity Support
- Build and maintain media lists using media management platforms.
- Distribute press releases through PBS-owned channels, PR Newswire, and relevant distribution platforms.
- Draft social media copy for announcements, recaps and publicity updates.
Events & Talent Coordination
- Support publicists and events director with virtual and in-person events, including talent logistics and talking points, media training support, clip selection, and event staffing.
Administrative & Budget Support
- Provide administrative support to the VP of Publicity, including budget tracking and reconciliation, invoice processing, and fiscal year tracking.
- Assist with compiling and distributing the internal publicity newsletter.
Social & Digital Monitoring
- In conjunction with our social team, track media and social conversations for priority programs and talent handles, flagging issues or opportunities for engagement.
- Support video clip selection for priority programs, along with the rollout for press and digital exclusives.
General Team Support
- Provide additional support and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements for success:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, media, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 1–3 years of experience in publicity, communications, or media relations.
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with major social media platforms and digital communication trends.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills; able to prioritize and multitask.
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently as responsibilities increase.
- Professionalism, attention to detail, and customer service mindset.
- Experience working with or managing budgets, vendors, and ability to interface with media strongly preferred.
- Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
