Job Opening: 3D Modeler / 3D Character Animator (Stylized Low-Poly, Must Rig Assets)
Company: LightBear Software Inc.
Location: Remote
Type: Contract / Freelance
About Us
LightBear Software Inc. creates games that uplift and inspire. We’re developing a project with a clean, stylized, low-poly aesthetic inspired by Kay Lousberg’s work (e.g., Kay Lousberg’s Skeleton Pack). Our game demo and trailer, available at www.nexulum.com
The game is still in active development, and we are exploring new ideas to enhance the experience. It is being developed for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox, so assets must be optimized for console performance as well as Unity integration. As part of our team, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute your creativity and help us build on the themes and aesthetics of the demo while introducing fresh, exciting concepts that align with our vision.
What You’ll Do
For 3D Modelers:
- Create stylized, low-poly 3D models, props, and environments that fit seamlessly into the aesthetic of our demo and new ideas in development.
- Model, UV-unwrap, and texture assets (flat colors, simple gradients, game-ready textures).
- Rig characters and riggable props (skinned character rigs, FK/IK setups, or game-ready skeletons).
For 3D Character Animators:
- Create animations for characters and rigged props, including idle, movement, attacks, and other in-game actions.
- Iterate on animations based on feedback to ensure fluidity, consistency, and compatibility with gameplay mechanics.
For Both Roles:
- Deliver assets optimized for real-time engines and console performance, ready for Unity integration.
- Collaborate with the team, iterate on assets as needed, and maintain consistency with the project’s evolving aesthetic.
What We’re Looking For
✅ Strong portfolio showcasing stylized, low-poly 3D models or animations, with examples that demonstrate your ability to capture a specific theme or style
✅ Proficiency in Blender (preferred), Maya, 3ds Max, or similar tools
✅ Solid understanding of game asset pipelines and optimization for real-time engines (Unity required)
✅ For modelers: Rigging skills — skinning, bones, basic FK/IK setups, animation-friendly topology
✅ For animators: Strong animation fundamentals with experience creating game-ready animations
✅ Experience with UVs, texture maps, LODs, and performance optimization for consoles
✅ Good communication skills and ability to take direction and feedback effectively
Deliverables & Workflow
- Clean, named files: .blend/.fbx (rigged + skinned), UV layout, textures (.png/.tga), animations (if applicable)
- Correct pivots/origins, naming conventions, and a simple test animation or pose to verify functionality
- Milestone workflow: concept/blockout → model/rig → animate/texture → integration
- Export to .fbx format is required for Unity compatibility
Compensation
- Development will span at least one year
- Payment will be milestone-based, aligned with publisher funding timelines
- Contractors will likely be classified as 1099 and paid per asset at agreed-upon rates upon achieving funding milestones
