Position Overview:
The Interior Designer plays a pivotal leadership role in transforming client visions into functional, beautifully designed spaces. This position manages the full design process, from initial hand-off to project completion, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and a seamless client experience. The Interior Designer also provides direction to drafters, assistants, vendors, and project managers, maintaining full ownership of the design process and setting the standard for 5-star service within the design team.
Key Responsibilities:
Internal Communication & Collaboration
Be a true team player by promoting open communication, collaboration, and partnership across departments creating a supportive “High Five” culture where everyone succeeds together
Participate in the internal hand-off meeting led by the salesperson to review project scope, costs, and client details
Clarify project objectives, timelines, and deliverables with the Project Manager before client engagement begins
Foster an open, collaborative relationship with the Project Manager to develop creative, effective solutions to challenges throughout the project
Efficiency & Process Improvement
Live out “Do the Right Thing” by identifying and implementing process enhancements that improve team efficiency, accuracy, and scalability while fostering a culture of continuous growth
Client Communication & Experience
Demonstrate positivity and professionalism in every client interaction, ensuring clear communication, timely follow-up, and a seamless design experience that supports the company goal of earning 5-star reviews
Ensure all pre-meeting documentation (client checklist, design schedule, and working agreement) is ready for presentation
Initiate contact with new clients and schedule the initial design meeting.
Lead the Initial Design Meeting, introducing the project team, establishing expectations, and understanding the homeowner’s design vision
Review collateral materials with clients, including checklists, working agreements, design schedules, and preferred vendor referrals
Serve as the primary point of contact for the homeowner throughout the design phase, maintaining proactive and professional communication
Drawings and Measurements
Conduct site visits to take accurate measurements and create detailed floor plans in AutoCAD and Chief Architect
Develop existing and proposed floor plans, elevations, mechanical layouts, and cabinetry designs
Collaborate with the admin to delegate tasks and review work for accuracy and completeness
Material Selections & Orders
Schedule and lead material selection meetings with clients at the showroom and preferred vendors
Guide clients through selection of all design materials including cabinetry, countertops, flooring, paint, fixtures, and finishes
Price all selected materials accurately and upload details into CoConstruct within the established timeline
Build and maintain the “Order Legend” document, assigning purchase tasks to the admin
Oversee material order placement and confirm accuracy of vendor communications
Schedule cabinet deliveries, countertop measurements, and installation dates in alignment with project timelines
Project Preparedness & Transition
Lead the design process to ensure alignment with client goals, budget, and construction feasibility
Produce a complete and accurate set of construction documents, including floor plans, elevations, and framing drawings
Develop the final Scope of Work document and review it with the Project Manager
Create and organize the Construction Binder and digital project folders according to company standards
Conduct the Scope of Work Review Meeting with the Project Manager and ensure all documentation is finalized before transition
Notify the homeowner when the Project Manager becomes their main point of contact and ensure a smooth transition
Coordinate post-project activities, including scheduling professional photography of completed spaces
Qualifications
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Chief Architect
Strong understanding of cabinetry design, material selection, and the construction process.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to create a 5-star client and team experience.
Proven leadership and project management skills, including delegation and accountability for the full design process.
Exceptional organization, time management, and planning abilities.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Experience using project management software (CoConstruct or similar) preferred.
Proficient with computers and smartphones.
Reliable vehicle for travel to project sites and meetings (mileage reimbursed).
Limited evening and weekend availability as required.
